Preferring Holy Spirit’s Plan

by Rev. Barbara Kraetsch

image I am struck by how similar the first principle and foundation of St. Ignatius is to ACIM. Another confirmation that the truth is the truth. It may come to us in slightly different words, merely symbols in form, but the truth always remains the truth. Visionaries and mystics throughout time always come to the idea of oneness, with all else being illusion.

It is in coming to the idea of oneness that we can come to recognize our soul. We cannot find ourselves except to look at the One Self. We cannot find ourselves anywhere else because we don’t exist anywhere else. Everything in the illusion made by the mind can be a help to the end of rejoicing in our oneness with God. We can make use of what is in the illusion to help us to this end, and also learn to let go of what is any hindrance to us. A hindrance for us is attachment to form, letting expectations, preferences, or obsessions rule our lives.

My Desire to Be Right Causes Me Pain

by Rev. Joan Haber

imageI was given an opportunity to choose between being right and being happy yesterday and I discovered that I act out of habit. When the situation arose, I instinctively turned on my defenses and made a decision out of wanting to be “right” with this other person.

Right after I did so, I stopped and actually thought about what I did and why. I believe it is this type of vigilant awareness that will eventually save me from this type of situation that only brings me pain.

This Year, Am I Willing to Remember the Mind Boggling Truth?

by Rev. Mary Stoelting

image As we begin this new year together, I am struck with the idea that this coming year brings with it an opportunity of ‘mind boggling’ proportions. As students of A Course in Miracles, we all know that it is very important for us to allow our minds to be ‘boggled’ by the Holy Spirit. When we let our minds be ‘boggled’ by the Holy Spirit we remember that in reality, there are no separate minds. We remember that there is only one Mind and that we are all included in the one Mind of Love. We remember that we cannot leave the one Mind of Love because It is our true Identity and we cannot change What we are.

How a Spiritual Perspective Can Change Your Experience

by Dennis Gaither, MD

image We live in a world seemingly determined by events around us and experienced through our senses. We see before us many separate objects and separate bodies with a mind or will of their own. Everything our senses tell us seems to remind us, to convince us, that we are alone and separate in a world of scarcity, competition and danger.  A world in which what we have, what we have worked for, can be taken from us in an instant.

We try to buy some sense of security in this world in countless ways:  relationships (or in the avoidance of them!), through our jobs and roles, through bank accounts and insurance policies. We try to protect ourselves from a perceived threatening world in many other ways. We seek safety in isolation, personal and national weapons, keeping our guard up, and joining with others in alliances against persons or groups.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Plan Brings Peace

by Rev. Barbara Kraetsch

imageI recognize today just how often I make plans in advance for myself and others. I think of things I will say and do, and how others will say and do. I make expectations in my mind by scripting in advance. I plan how people will act at family events and parties, meetings, holidays, work schedules — really, almost every situation or event I can think of. I script interactions and moods. I plan it out to meet my needs or what I think would be best, not only for me but others, as well. Sometimes these expectations get locked into my mind and if they don’t happen, I feel keenly disappointed.

Do We Have to Suffer to Grow Spiritually?

by Rev. Marie Hanson

imageThis question was asked at our A Course in Miracles discussion group recently.  What a great question! My mind immediately went into its busy-ness and monkey business. It would go to a back burner, and then come to the front.  It intrigued me. It eluded me. It deserved meditation and reflection.

I am aware of a part of me that always knows. It is joyful, peaceful. Then, there is the part of me that can be nosey and argumentative. It is noisy and brings my mind evidence to contradict Truth. My split mind!  How clever it is. Holy Spirit’s help is always at hand.  And invite Him in I did.  Ahhh…
