Bring Darkness to the Light

We live in a world of darkness, covered with clouds of fear, hate, anxiety, separation, defense and attack. These dark thoughts block the light from entering.

“You are the Kingdom of Heaven, but you have let the belief in darkness enter your mind and so you need a new light. The Holy Spirit is the radiance that you must let banish the idea of darkness.” (T-5.II.4:1-2)

It is impossible for us to reverse the darkness to the light by ourselves. It is only when we bring our illusions to the light that they disappear. For light automatically dispels darkness.

“He brings the light to darkness if you make the darkness open to Him.”  (T-14.VII.6:4)

The Holy Spirit will shift our perception from false ego thinking to true healing, and grant us instantaneous deliverance from the imprisoning problems of the world. All that is needed is for us to be vigilant for our thoughts without judgment, and give them to the Holy Spirit for healing. He will do His part if we do ours.

The Course reminds us that there is another way to look at every situation, and we can choose again for what we really want. In order to grow, we must be willing to experience our feelings of sin, guilt, fear and grievances. Our tendency is to project these guilty feelings out onto the world, so that we don’t have to experience the horror of our own perceived guilt.

“The Holy Spirit will help you reinterpret everything that you perceive as fearful, and teach you that only what is loving is true.” (T-5.IV.1:3)

When we begin to look at our life as a classroom in which our relationships are the curriculum, and the Holy Spirit is the teacher, we will experience our life from a much different perspective. Having the courage to notice the darkness that resides within and be willing to give it to the light of the Holy Spirit for healing is the only real way to experience the light from which we came.

The more we do this, the more we will experience the happy dream in our lives. The darkness will be lifted and the light of our true Self will come shining through. The world will slowly change from fear, separation and guilt… to a world of love, peace and happiness.
My personal experience:  As I go through my day, sometimes my mind can get sucked into darkness for no reason at all. I get trapped in a mad story… Putin, earthquakes, knife crime, cost of living increases.

So I’ve learned to step back from the world at regular intervals, breathe deep, quiet my mind, and connect to Holy Spirit… and I soon return to peace.

“Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learning of the world becomes a transitory phase; a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness.” (W-184.10:1) 

Another experience: I have a person in my life who triggers me. He often accuses me of things I didn’t do, finds things wrong with me, and makes jokes about me that I don’t find funny. I can have grievances and judgments about him. So I asked Holy Spirit “How would you have me see him?” And this is what I received:

“He is a gift to you, to help you heal your mind. He is showing you places in your mind where there still lurks grievances and judgments, and gives you an opportunity to see them and give them to Me for healing. He is your angel, and you both go home together.”

I Fell into a Fantasy

I fell into a fantasy. I was a famous musician, accepting accolades and awards and acting all humble. I may have let it go on a bit too long. At some point in this daydream, I came back to the present. I came back to Spirit’s time and snapped out of it.

I had temporarily allowed ego to hijack my mind with one of its endless supply of fantasies and day dreams. It loves fantasies about power and sacrifice and revenge or, like in the above example, the humble hero. It loves fantasies about who deserves punishment, because of something they did that was over the proverbial top. Ego is always the hero in these fantasies and likes them because they’re all about winners and losers, victims and perpetrators, an endless supply. And of course, all these fantasies are based upon a distorted view of the past.

What is an ego fantasy but an attempt to bolster the body and strive for separation? It tries to brainwash us into thinking we’re either better or worse than everyone. “Specialness” is its magic elixir.

I have come far in handling these ego thoughts. I do this through self forgiveness. J whispers, “Hey Buddy, give these thoughts to Spirit and don’t let them leak out into your behavior.” This is the first step after consciously catching them. They usually come when I’m upset about something.

Self forgiveness also means I don’t have to punish myself anymore for the ego thoughts that pop into my mind. Ego used to beat me up twice, once, for having the thought and then again, chastising me for having it! Ego can’t hurt me, it can only threaten to hurt me. That’s really all it ever does. It cries wolf ad nauseam and I’m done with the insanity of it. With Spirit’s help, I can look beyond these clouds of madness, the ego beliefs that I’m awful for having awful thoughts. I can now see the madness in its messages, which always contain some type of fear.

There’s one other component I needed to learn that goes hand and hand with self-forgiveness — humor. I am getting to the point where I see mostly humor in ego’s moves, a major blessing, because it isn’t going away, not in this world. As I learn to discount it, I am practicing forgiveness of the ego’s insane thoughts by smiling at them, handing them off to Spirit, and giving them no power in my mind.

Ego still sneaks in like in the above example and sometimes I let far too much mind chatter sneak in. But I’m catching it like never before. I’m not with Spirit 24/7, but my Christ vision continues to grow, bringing me to new levels of peace.

And now I’m learning to let go, to practice judgment of very little I had judged before and not letting ego fool me into thinking certain judgments are worthy, especially of me! God doesn’t judge, He only loves. Spirit will show me everything I need to understand when I am in a place of peace. I am blessed with His presence and His guidance.

Self forgiveness is no different than forgiveness of others. Spirit asks that we do both as One, while showing us that all of His lessons turn into One as well.

I am Your Son, Father, and I am filled with gratitude.

The War Is Over if We Want It Over

The ego is at war with its God and sees that war on every face with every encounter. It compares looks, intelligence level, homes, possessions, is easily offended, etc.

The ego projected this entire cosmos in order that it may convince the Son of God he is a body and therefore at war with everyone and everything.

A body lives by the scarcity principle Jesus speaks of in the Course. We (the ego) experience ourselves lacking love, respect, companionship, abundance, happiness and the like. This is the result of not knowing who and what we are — Spirit.

The ego is cunning and baffling, and has us convinced that IT is us. In order to be free, we need to begin the purification of our hidden hate and be willing to become humble in the face of hate. No one really hates anyone here, we are hypnotized by the ego’s war with God. When we really and truly understand and believe this, we are then able to meet hatred with Love.

Non-reaction to this world of egoic hate, and meeting hatred with Love is the highest spiritual attainment. St. John the Divine reached His enlightenment through the simple, yet direct practice of “Christ, Christ” with every encounter. It didn’t just come to Him and neither did the Christ mind just “happen” to Jesus. Jesus teaches us in the Course that he LEARNED to see the face of Christ upon His brothers.

I love you, I see you, I release you, I bless you, I thank you. Find out what blessing is your cloak of Love. Ask the Holy Spirit within you what blessing will awaken you to the divinity of your Self. Carry that blessing in your pocket and never let it out of sight (mind).

We are walking one another home to Divine Love. We are the Christ. There is nothing else here.
