The Power of Gratitude

Mary:
This morning we were guided to read A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 123. What stood out was,

We sing the song of thankfulness today, in honor of the Self That God has willed to be our true Identity in Him. Today we smile on everyone we see, and walk with lightened footsteps as we go to do what is appointed us to do.

We do not go alone. And we give thanks that in our solitude a Friend has come to speak the saving Word of God to us. And thanks to you for listening to Him. (W-pI.123.4:2-3,5:1-3)

This lesson brings to mind the power of gratitude to bring us the blessings that come from our inner Teacher, Who brings us to the truth. The gift of gratitude brings us “…to gentler pathways and smoother roads.” (1:2)

It is such a blessing to remember that we have never left God’s holy Mind, and that He showers us with gifts of peace and joy whenever we are willing to receive them. This is my opportunity today — to be thankful for the wonderful gifts we are always receiving from God.

Robert:
We welcome what we are grateful for. Our ingratitude for God’s gift of all His Love, all that is Real, led to the making of a dream that seemed to offer us what we wanted and welcomed. Ingratitude for God’s gifts led to the denial of our Home and our Self and the making of an image of our self that keeps God out.

But through all that denial and ingratitude, God’s Voice remains in our mind, always offering God’s gift of all of Himself, all of His Love. We need only be willing to listen to this Voice, to accept Its message, and we will once again remember that we are loved, that we are one in innocence, that we have never left our Home. We have taught ourselves to believe that we are alone, but the means to undo that mistaken lesson is ever present in our minds.

Today I am willing to listen to that lesson. I am grateful that my Source has never left me and unceasingly offers me the gift of all that is — of perfect peace, changeless joy and eternal Love. I welcome His gift today.

A Day of Gratitude

Mary:
Today is a day of thanksgiving that the Christ is all there is to see. Today is a day of gratitude — a day to celebrate that the truth is true and nothing else is true. Today is a day to practice letting the Holy Spirit show me the truth in everyone I meet or even think of. My only wish for today is to let the Holy Spirit show me that nothing has happened to change God’s one Son. And for this I give thanks.

Robert:
I am grateful that I have been given an Aid in my mind to help me see with the vision of Christ. As I am willing to accept this Help, The importance of the body fades and the vision of innocence comes to the front, for the past has gone and no longer casts a shadow on the truth. Today I will practice letting this Aid be my Guide in every moment. The Light I see with this Aid inspires great gratitude, for it reminds me of What I am along with all my brothers. Every day that I accept this Help is a day of thanksgiving.

Returning to Awareness of Home

Robert:
All I really want is the peace of God, the peace of my real Home. I have been believing that I am not at Home and have experienced the effects of believing I am separate from my Source, alone and separate from the Love that is my Home. I do not need to travel anywhere to return Home. I do not really need to do anything. I simply need to stop making barriers against awareness that I am still at Home, at one with my Creator.

Today I am willing to accept the Help of my true Friend to let go of the false belief that I am not at Home and welcome the experience of being complete in eternal Love. I am willing to see what my Friend sees, the Love that is my brother and shines without limit. As I open to this vision, I remember I am Home.

Mary:
This morning I woke up early with this thought in my mind: “I place the future in the Hands of God.” I think the Holy Spirit brought this thought to my mind because I needed it. Sometimes I still get lost and forget that in truth there is no past and there is no future. In truth there is only God’s Love, right now and this Love lasts forever.

Remembering this helps bring me back to remembering that everyone is safe and has never left. This little sandbox we are playing in really means nothing and is nowhere. The truth about our one Identity is so incredibly peaceful and powerful that as I am willing to remember It, It returns to my awareness. In this place of remembering I know that all is safe and all is well. The whole Sonship is at Home, right now. And I give thanks.

Remembering We Are Not Alone

Robert:
A Course in Miracles suggests that we ask of everything, “What is this for?” What I think something is for depends on what I think I am. If I think I am a body with a separate self, then I will think that whatever I see and do is to protect that image because it will seem that the loss of that image is death.

When I remember that I am not a body, I am Spirit, then everything in the world is used as a means of expressing the oneness of Spirit. The world becomes a place to practice forgiveness, letting go of a separate identity and demonstrating that only Love is real. I cannot do this on my own because the acceptance of the Spirit of Love as my Identity is the recognition that I could not be alone and separate.

But since I have long identified with a separate identity, I need help from outside that belief system. That Help is the Voice for Love in my mind that will always show me the Love beyond all the forms the body’s eyes show me. Today is another day to practice letting the Voice for Love be my Guide in all my doing.

Mary:
I remember that I am not alone when I remember to choose peace. Giving time to accepting God’s peace is my number one priority. When I truly do accept God’s peace, inspiration for how to be truly helpful always comes with it. A sense of gentleness and well being always comes with it.

Fearful thoughts always seem to just disappear automatically as I put peace first. Putting peace first is the same as opening to Holy Spirit’s healing Light. What seemed complicated before becomes simple. Simple, uncomplicated Love is all there is to see. Today my practice is to put peace first and then joyously accept all the gifts that follow from that decision.

Accepting and Extending Love

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Today practice accepting Love in each now moment… Just focus on accepting Love and extending Love… Let the rest take care of itself… Let Love guide your perceptions… Let yourself be carried by Love… In Love there is no past and no future, only the eternal present. Let yourself become aware of Love’s eternal presence today…

Robert:
Today we read Lesson 213 in the Workbook of A Course in Miracles, which is a review of Lesson 193, “All things are lessons God would have me learn.” It gives a helpful explanation of God’s lessons: “A lesson is a miracle which God offers to me, in place of thoughts I made that hurt me.” (W-pII.213.1:2)

The ego interprets a lesson as punishment, especially if it’s perceived as painful. If I think I am in an unhappy situation or something is wrong or I’m experiencing bodily pain, the ego would interpret this lesson as punishment because I am guilty. Guilt is the glue that holds the ego thought system together.

But if God’s lesson is a miracle, then it is a lesson in Love, not punishment and guilt. So the perception of pain, unhappiness, fear and guilt is an opportunity to turn to God’s Voice for His lesson in Love. Thus if I am having a disturbing experience, it is an opportunity to turn away from ego’s lesson in guilt and open to God’s lesson in Love. His lesson will replace the thoughts I made that bring me pain and disturb my peace.

God’s lessons are happy lessons. His lessons lead me to remember that, “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” This is the only lesson God would have me learn. It is the lesson that releases me from the self-imposed limits of believing that I am separate from Love, confined to a body. Thus God’s lessons are not to be feared but welcomed. There is nothing I want more than to remember that I am innocent, I am loved and I am Love. And this is the lesson God would have me learn.

Choosing My Guide

Robert:
Today, like every day, I choose the kind of day that I would have. If I choose the Holy Spirit as my Guide, I choose a day of happiness and peace. If I choose the ego as my guide, I choose dissatisfaction and conflict, guilt and fear. The first choice leads to everything I want. The second leads to nothing, though sometimes nothing can be dressed in appealing images that disguise the emptiness they contain.

Today I choose to let go of self-deception by keeping my mind open to the Holy Spirit’s lead. He will teach me to recognize the images for what they are and to look past them to the Love that is always there and that I am. I choose to have a happy day.

Mary:
Today is another day of opening my mind to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This requires my willingness to recognize ego thoughts as they come up and hand them over to the Holy Spirit for a corrected perception. I can recognize ego thoughts by the level of tension I feel. As soon as I recognize that I am not in peace, I can turn again to the Holy Spirit, Who will once again correct my perception.

I have such a wonderful Helper right in my mind Who is willing to transform my mind whenever I am willing. My opportunity today is to consistently practice receiving this powerful Help.

Return to Peace and Joy

Mary:
Love’s peace is eternal… Love’s joy is eternal… Love’s oneness is eternal… My job today is to accept the eternal.

As I am willing to accept the changelessness of peace, I will not be disturbed by the ever-changing problems found in the world of separation. I still get caught up in the constantly changing stories of the ego. My opportunity today is to let the Holy Spirit lift the ego’s veil as many times as is needed. As I am willing to do this, peace returns; joy returns; awareness of Love’s oneness returns.

Allowing my awareness of the eternal is what this day is for. And I give thanks.

Robert:
Joy comes from following Holy Spirit’s lead, because Holy Spirit always leads to Love. His vision always shows me the Love in my brother and reminds me that the perception of anything else is a call for Love. Today is a day to practice stepping back and following Holy Spirit’s lead to Love and joy, my natural state. Following Holy Spirit is a gift I give to myself and all my brothers, who are one with me.
