Robert:
When I see a story in the news about someone murdering someone, I might say to myself, “I would never do that.” But if I look closer at the underlying belief behind the appearance in form, I see that I do the same thing in another form every day.
The “murderer” sees himself and the other person as separate bodies. He sees the other body as a threat to him and believes his safety comes with eliminating or separating himself from that other body. The Course tells me that judgment depends on perceiving my brother as a body.
So when I judge a brother I do the same thing as the murderer: I see myself and him as separate bodies, and through judgment, I am attempting to maintain and reinforce the separation. Murder and judgment have the same function in the ego thought system — to make separation appear real.
I am grateful that I have within my mind the antidote to the false idea that separation is real. I access this antidote simply by being willing to receive it. All I need do is offer all my judgments to the Holy Spirit with willingness that they be corrected. It is not my job to correct the judgments. It is my job to be willing to let the Holy Spirit correct them with the Light of Love. The Holy Spirit will help me see the meaninglessness of all judgments. I need only be willing to receive His vision.
Today I will hold the thought that I am willing to receive Holy Spirit’s vision, to see the the eyes of Love so that I may recognize my brother as my Self.
Mary:
This morning we read A Course in Miracles Text, chapter 18, section IV called, “The Little Willingness.” What stood out to me was this:
Trust not your good intentions. They are not enough. But trust implicitly on your willingness, whatever else may enter. Concentrate only on this, and be not disturbed that shadows surround it. That is why you came. If you could come without them [the shadows] you would not need the holy instant. Come to it not in arrogance, assuming that you must achieve the state its coming brings with it. The miracle of the holy instant lies in your willingness to let it be what it is. And in your willingness for this lies also your acceptance of yourself as you were meant to be. (T-18.IV.2:1-9)
This is my opportunity today — to trust only in my little willingness to let the Holy Spirit do His job. This means to surrender to the Holy Spirit all that I think I know, and to remember I know nothing. Laying all I think I know on God’s Altar is the same as forgiveness [forgiving]. When I truly am willing to do this, I become lighthearted instead of heavyhearted. My willingness to remember that I know nothing brings with it a feeling of laughter and fun. Letting the Holy Spirit be in charge is really fun! What I have thought of as fun has really changed under Holy Spirit’s guidance.
I am seeing that this little willingness is so important. Being willing to let the Holy Spirit do His job is my only function today. And as I am willing, I am blessed. I am in deep gratitude for all the help we all have to wake up from the dream as we are willing.
