Seeing Our One Self in Our Brother

For this alone I need; that you will hear the words I speak, and give them to the world. You are my voice, my eyes, my feet, my hands through which I save the world. The Self from which I call to you is but your own. To Him we go together. Take your brother’s hand, for this is not a way we walk alone. In him I walk with you, and you with me. Our Father wills His Son be one with Him. What lives but must not then be one with you? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 171, W-pI.V.9:2-9. See also ACIM Lesson 171 Insights.)

If we would be the expression of our true Self in the world, we must see with the vision of our true Self, speak as It would speak and act as It would act. Since our true Self is only Love, we must let Love guide us in all things.

Our practice must be to look past behavior without judgment to see the Love and the calls for Love. If we perceive another as angry or guilty or frightening, we need to recognize the call for Love it represents. With that recognition, Love answers. As we let Love answer through us, our own calls for Love are answered.

When we serve as the voice and hands and feet of our true Self, we heal and are healed. We see the truth in our brother and recognize it as the reflection of the truth in us. The brother who seemed to be apart from us is seen as one with us. In this joining, we reach the gate of Heaven and are welcomed Home.

We Are One in God

God goes with me wherever I go. How can I be alone when God always goes with me? How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? Let me not cherish illusions about myself. Today we practice stepping back and opening to Holy Spirit’s perfect peace… Today we practice opening our minds to Holy Spirit’s thoughts… We practice opening to Holy Spirit’s way of seeing the world… We open to Holy Spirit’s inspiration in how to be truly helpful in every situation…

We relax… and allow ourselves to be carried by Holy Spirit’s inspiration… We practice letting go and letting God… We remember that on our own we do not know what anything means… We give time to be quiet and listen… We allow ourselves to feel Holy Spirit’s peace… gentleness… and patience… We allow ourselves to see the innate innocence in everyone… We allow ourselves to remember Love’s all inclusive Oneness… And we give thanks.

Learning to See Only Innocence

All you need do to dwell in quiet here with Christ is share His vision. Quickly and gladly is His vision given to anyone who is but willing to see his brother sinless. And no one can remain beyond this willingness, if you would be released entirely from all effects of sin. Would you have partial forgiveness for yourself? Can you reach Heaven while a single sin still tempts you to remain in misery? Heaven is the home of perfect purity, and God created it for you. Look at your holy brother, sinless as yourself, and let him lead you [to Heaven]. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.II.13. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

It is impossible to judge anyone and share Christ’s vision. Judgment is the ego’s mechanism for making separation seem real. Christ’s vision sees only innocence, which automatically leads to union. It is the means to heal the separation and return to the unity and joy of Heaven.

Christ’s vision makes no exceptions. It sees innocence and nothing else. To join in the healing of the world, our function must be to let go of judgment and welcome Christ’s vision. There can be no exceptions if we would heal. No seeming adversary or threat to our happiness can be excluded from Christ’s vision if we would be healed.

Sometimes this seems like a tall order. But we have Help. We need only offer our willingness to receive a healed perception. The Holy Spirit will strengthen our willingness to help us release the false image that seems to threaten and divide us from our brothers.

Today we practice bringing all our thoughts to the Holy Spirit for purification with Christ’s vision. Thus will we be healed and extend healing.

Remembering God’s Will Is Ours

Father, we do not know the way to You. But we have called, and You have answered us. We will not interfere. Salvation’s ways are not our own, for they belong to You. And it is unto You we look for them. Our hands are open to receive Your gifts. We have no thoughts we think apart from You, and cherish no beliefs of what we are, or Who created us. Yours is the way that we would find and follow. And we ask but that Your Will, which is our own as well, be done in us and in the world, that it become a part of Heaven now. Amen. The ego’s most cherished belief is that it has its own will, different from God’s and from everyone else. The consequence of this belief is that it must constantly defend against opposing wills. And most important of all, it must defend against God’s Will. Its identity depends upon it.

Because God’s Will for us is perfect happiness, the ego’s “will” is to be unhappy, to deny God’s Will. It seems insane that we would choose to identify with a will that guarantees unhappiness. Yet that is what we do when we claim the ego as our identity.

Thankfully we are not lost in this insanity. God’s Will for us remains unchanged. And because His Will is for our happiness, He has given us the means to remember that our real Will is the same as His. We share God’s Love, His peace and His joy. As we accept this, we are able to see past the images produced by the wish to have a will different from God’s. God’s Will no longer frightens us. We no longer feel we will lose something of value if we accept His Will. We begin to recognize that all we ever really want is to remember that God’s Love is ours and accept His gift of perfect happiness.

Today we open our hearts and minds to God’s gift of His Love that we may share It with all.

Look Past Appearances to Remember Love

The Holy Spirit holds this plan of God [for salvation] exactly as it was received of Him within the Mind of God and in your own. It is apart from time in that its Source is timeless. Yet it operates in time, because of your belief that time is real. Unshaken does the Holy Spirit look on what you see; on sin and pain and death, on grief and separation and on loss. Yet does He know one thing must still be true; God is still Love, and this is not His Will.

This is the Thought that brings illusions to the truth, and sees them as appearances behind which is the changeless and the sure. This is the Thought that saves and that forgives, because it lays no faith in what is not created by the only Source it knows. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 99, W-pI.99.5:1-6:2. Changeless Love created us like Itself. Love is eternal along with all Its Creation. Because only Love is real, we must also be only Love.

Appearances in the world make it seem that there is Love’s opposite — fear, guilt, attack and loss. God’s plan for salvation brings us the Holy Spirit. He remembers for us the reality and changelessness of Love. He sees the appearances we see in the illusion of separation but does not believe in them.

Thus He can offer us a helping hand to lift us out of the dark shadows of separation and bring us to the Light of Love. He reminds us that what frightens us and seems to be cause for guilt is not God’s Will and therefore is not real. In our belief in separation we have taught ourselves to deny the Love we are, yet the Love remains.

As we practice offering all our thoughts to the Holy Spirit, He will shine away the shadows so we can look past them to the eternal Light of Love that is everywhere. He teaches us to overlook appearances and remember Love.

The Gift of the Holy Relationship

The Light that joins you and your brother shines throughout the universe, and because It joins you and him, so It makes you and him one with your Creator. And in Him is all creation joined. Would you regret you cannot fear alone, when your relationship can also teach the power of Love is there, which makes all fear impossible? Do not attempt to keep a little of the ego with [the gift of the holy relationship]. For it was given you to be used, and not obscured. What teaches you that you cannot separate denies the ego. Let truth decide if you and your brother be different or the same, and teach you which is true. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.VI.15. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

A relationship becomes holy when it is dedicated to seeing only innocence. It thus becomes a classroom for learning to overlook what never happened; to overlook separation. As we learn in a holy relationship that we are one with our brother, we learn that there can be no harm, for what is one cannot harm itself. The idea of harm depends on belief that separation is real. There must appear to be two opposing entities that conflict. Yet conflict is impossible in the oneness of Love.

If we want to fully learn the lesson of Love’s oneness which the holy relationship teaches, we must be willing to let go of our investment in the ego thought system of separation. We cannot keep one little part of it, for even the “smallest” thought of separation draws a veil over the vision of innocence.

Today we practice accepting Holy Spirit’s help to lift the veil and see our brother’s innocence.

We Would Remember the Truth of Love Today

Love created me like itself.
I am in the likeness of my Creator. I cannot suffer, I cannot experience loss and I cannot die. I am not a body. I would recognize my reality today. I will worship no idols, nor raise my own self-concept to replace my Self. I am in the likeness of my Creator. Love created me like itself.

You might find these specific forms helpful in applying the idea:

Let me not see an illusion of myself in this.
As I look on this, let me remember my Creator.

Because we remain an extension of God’s Love, there is nothing to fear. We are coming to the recognition the nothing really happens except Love. Dreams of separation from Love are just dreams and nothing more. Love is… God is… There is nothing else in truth. Our purpose now is to remember this and apply it as we forgive the world for all we ever thought it was.

Herein lies our happiness… herein lies our peace… We help our awakening to the truth, along with every brother, as we practice remembering that we all are still in the likeness of our Creator. We all are still love and nothing else, no matter what stories we make up in dreams of separation. We would remember the truth today and be happy.
