Opening to Love’s Eternal Presence

You must discover and open to the timeless while living under the laws of time. The changeless must be realized in the midst of the constantly changing. The eternal is always with you in the present, but is not noticed. The mind is very busy, so preoccupied with the past and the future that the present is overlooked and passed by. So long as you identify with the ego, with the constant activity of the mind, with its unceasing stream of thoughts, feelings, images, impulses, and desires, so long will you bypass the present. Your life takes place now, not in the past or future. If you would reclaim your life as it really is from the illusion you thought it was, you must return your attention to the present. Nowhere else does real learning take place; nowhere else can your mind be healed. (From the Christ Mind Book II, p. 188)

Amidst all the turmoil found in the world, there is a place of inner quiet in our mind where eternal peace and Love reside… Today we practice going there and opening to Love’s quiet inner joy and happiness… Today we go to that eternal, changeless Love That remains our true Identity…

We ask that our minds be healed and purified of thoughts of being separate and alone… We ask to be Love’s reflection… We ask to see past the illusions of separation to the truth of Love’s oneness… We give time to let our thoughts be cleansed in Love’s healing Light…

We give thanks as we open to Love’s eternal Presence and receive God’s Gifts of peace, Love and joy.

Being a Teacher of God

Sometimes a teacher of God may have a brief experience of direct union with God. In this world, it is almost impossible that this endure. It can, perhaps, be won after much devotion and dedication, and then be maintained for much of the time on earth. But this is so rare that it cannot be considered a realistic goal. If it happens, so be it. If it does not happen, so be it as well. All worldly states must be illusory. If God were reached directly in sustained awareness, the body would not be long maintained. Those who have laid the body down merely to extend their helpfulness to those remaining behind are few indeed. And they need helpers who are still in bondage and still asleep, so that by their awakening can God’s Voice be heard.

Do not despair, then, because of limitations. It is your function to escape from them, but not to be without them. If you would be heard by those who suffer, you must speak their language. If you would be a savior, you must understand what needs to be escaped. Salvation is not theoretical. Behold the problem, ask for the answer, and then accept it when it comes. Nor will its coming be long delayed. All the help you can accept will be provided, and not one need you have will not be met. Let us not, then, be too concerned with goals for which you are not ready. God takes you where you are and welcomes you. What more could you desire, when this is all you need? (A Course in Miracles, M-26.3-4)

To be a teacher of God requires that we be willing to let the Holy Spirit guide everything we say and do. The practice of consistently asking Holy Spirit’s help with letting go of judgment and healing our minds is an essential first step. We must also be willing to accept His help. If we have a preconceived idea of how the help will come or what it will look like, we have made a barrier that prevents us from fully receiving His help.

We are always given all the help we need. The help we accept is limited only by our willingness to follow His lead. This is why the early lessons in the Workbook remind us that we do not know what anything means in the world. This means we let go of all our opinions. We come to our inner Guide with wholly open hands and hearts. With this practice we heal our minds and join with our brothers in this healing. This is how we remember God.

The Miracle of Changed Perception

>Let me remember love is happiness, and nothing else brings joy. And so I choose to entertain no substitutes for love.

Love is my heritage, and with it joy. These are the gifts my Father gave to me. I would accept all that is mine in truth.

Today I will accept God’s peace and joy, in glad exchange for all the substitutes that I have made for happiness and peace.

Let my own feeble voice be still, and let me hear the mighty Voice for Truth Itself assure me that I am God’s perfect Son. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 117, W-pI.117.1:2-3,2:1-4;118.1:2,2:2. See also ACIM Lessons 117 and 118 Insights.)

Believing we have made our own identity and successfully separated from God leads to the conviction that we are not God’s perfect Son; we are not worthy of His gifts of Love and joy and peace. Yet our belief does not make it true. The Course assures us that God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. He still knows us as His perfect Son. And He has not changed His Mind about us.

A Course in Miracles is teaching us to recognize that what we believe about ourselves is false and can never be true. We have thoroughly taught ourselves to believe that a lie is true. Thus we need to be taught to recognize the lie as a lie so that we can let it go and welcome the truth that God’s peace and happiness are ours now and we are His one perfect Son. We let ourselves be taught by bringing every judgment, every disturbing thought to the Holy Spirit to receive the miracle of changed perception.

Speeding Our Journey Home

Look upon your Redeemer [Self], and behold what He would show you in your brother, and let not sin arise again to blind your eyes. For sin would keep you separate from him, but your Redeemer would have you look upon your brother as yourself. Your relationship is now a temple of healing; a place where all the weary ones can come and rest. Here is the rest that waits for all, after the journey. And it is brought nearer to all by your relationship. A Course in Miracles, (T-19.III.11. See also ACIM Text Q & A, Ch. 19, Section III.)

If we fully accepted that everyone is included in our Self, which God created as His one Son, there would be no conflict. We would see no “other” with which to conflict. Conflict can only seem to occur in the made up world of images of separation.

The peace of God lies in accepting the one Self we are and laying down the images of separation that blind us to our Reality. The practice of bringing every seeming conflict to the Holy Spirit with willingness to have our perception corrected clears the way for the experience of our oneness in Love. This is the practice of forgiveness. This is how the miracle corrects our perception and speeds our journey Home.

Releasing Our False Self-Image

You are what God created or what you made. One Self is true; the other is not there. Try to experience the unity of your one Self. Try to appreciate Its Holiness and the love from which It was created. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you, by hiding Its majesty behind the tiny idols of evil and sinfulness you have made to replace It. Let It come into Its Own. Here you are; This is You. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so.

If a situation arises that seems to be disturbing, quickly dispel the illusion of fear by repeating these thoughts again. Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

Light and joy and peace abide in you.
Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.

You can do much for the world’s salvation today. You can do much today to bring you closer to the part in salvation that God has assigned to you. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 93, W-pI.93.9;11:1-6. See also ACIM Lesson 93 Insights.)

The fear, anger and guilt we experience in this world comes from believing in a false image of ourselves that we are separate and alone. We need to reverse our thoughts and let go of the false image we have made. Reminding ourselves frequently that “Light and joy and peace abide in us and our sinlessness is guaranteed by God” begins the process of letting go of the false image we have made.

When we believe in the false image, it is hard to accept this new thought. That is why repetition is needed. We can trust that the Source of this idea is the Source of all Truth. This idea must be true, even though it seems to be the opposite of our belief. Acceptance of this idea offers us release from fear, anger and guilt. It offers us God’s Light and joy and peace. It’s worth the practice.

Remembering We Are Love

Miracles mirror God’s eternal Love.
To offer them is to remember Him,
And through His memory to save the world.

What we forgive becomes a part of us, as we perceive ourselves. The Son of God incorporates all things within himself as You created him. Your memory depends on his forgiveness. What he is, is unaffected by his thoughts. But what he looks upon is their direct result. Therefore, my Father, I would turn to You. Only Your memory will set me free. And only my forgiveness teaches me to let Your memory return to me, and give it to the world in thankfulness.

And as we gather miracles from Him, we will indeed be grateful. For as we remember Him, His Son will be restored to us in the reality of Love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 350, W-pII.350. See also ACIM Lesson 250 Insights.)

When we judge we block the memory of God from our awareness. Judgment is the denial of Love, which cannot judge. Forgiveness acknowledges the reality of Love and looks past everything that is not Love. Do we want to know that we are loved? Forgiveness brings this to us.

It may seem that we forgive another, but it is always a gift to ourselves as well. Forgiveness is how we accept the Love we are. As we accept that we are Love, we automatically give It, for that is Love’s nature.

Today we would let go of judgment and remember we are Love and remember God

Our Journey of Return

I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love. In me is His creation sanctified and guaranteed eternal life. In me is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite. I am the holy home of God Himself. I am the Heaven where His Love resides. I am His holy Sinlessness Itself, for in my purity abides His Own.

We are the holy messengers of God who speak for Him, and carrying His Word to everyone whom He has sent to us, we learn that it is written on our hearts. And thus our minds are changed about the aim for which we came, and which we seek to serve. We bring glad tidings to the Son of God, who thought he suffered. Now is he redeemed. And as he sees the gate of Heaven stand open before him, he will enter in and disappear into the Heart of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook, Part II, 14, W-pII.14.1,5. In this world, it does not seem that in us “is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite.” (W-pII.14.1:3 ) But that is because we are believing in a false identity which is actually the denial of our true Self. This mistaken belief stands between us and our awareness that we remain as God created us, at Home in the Heart of God.

Fortunately beliefs can change. We know this from experience, for we have changed our beliefs thousands of times already. But we have been only changing our belief from one illusion to another, thus remaining imprisoned in the dream of separation. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to lead us out of our self-made prison.

As we become willing to question our beliefs and ask the Holy Spirit to show us what is true and what is false, we start our journey of return. Each time we let the Holy Spirit shine the Light of Love on our beliefs, the dark shadows of separation fade and the joy of God grows stronger in our hearts.

Today we will focus our attention on the Holy Spirit’s vision that we may remember we are God’s Son.
