Finding Peace and Joy

We will remember, as the hour strikes, our function is to let our minds be healed, that we may carry healing to the world, exchanging curse for blessing, pain for joy, and separation for the peace of God. Is not a minute of the hour worth the giving to receive a gift like this? Is not a little time a small expense to offer for the gift of everything?

Let healing be through you this very day. And as you rest in quiet, be prepared to give as you receive, to hold but what you give, and to receive the Word of God to take the place of all the foolish thoughts that ever were imagined. We are all seeking peace and joy. Whether or not we find them depends on which guide we choose to follow. If we choose to follow the ego’s dictates, to believe in separation, we are guaranteed not to find peace or joy. But if we let the Holy Spirit be our Guide with all our thoughts and actions, peace and joy are guaranteed because He will always guide us back to the acceptance of our one Self, the Son of God.

This is all we really want. And we are guaranteed to find it because we are seeking only what is Real. Because we have believed so long in the illusion of separation, we need to be shown the difference between real and unreal. Today we practice keeping our mind open to receive the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our own perceptions. This is how we learn to recognize reality from illusion. This is how we let our minds be healed.

Letting Go of Specialness with Christ’s Vision

Comparison must be an ego device, for love makes none. Specialness always makes comparisons. It is established by a lack seen in another, and maintained by searching for, and keeping clear in sight, all lacks it can perceive. This does it seek, and this it looks upon. And always whom it thus diminishes would be your Savior, had you not chosen to make of him a tiny measure of your specialness instead. Against the littleness you see in him you stand as tall and stately, clean and honest, pure and unsullied, by comparison with what you see. Nor do you understand it is yourself that you diminish thus.

[Christ’s vision sees] the shining radiance of the Son of God, so like his Father that the memory of Him springs instantly to mind. And with this memory, the Son remembers his own creations, as like to him as he is to his Father. And all the world he made, and all his specialness, and all the sins he held in its defense against himself, will vanish as his mind accepts the truth about himself, as it returns to take their place. This is the only “cost” of truth: You will no longer see what never was, nor hear what makes no sound. Is it a sacrifice to give up nothing, and receive the Love of God forever? Here it is clearly defined how the ego thought system sees the world and how Christ’s vision sees. This is very helpful because we have mistakenly believed in the ego’s way of seeing and now we can choose a better way.

Christ’s vision comes to us as we truly want it. It is our willingness to see the truth behind all illusions of differences that brings Christ’s vision to our awareness. With Christ’s vision comes peace and eternal happiness that does not come and go.

Today we practice noticing when we have fallen into ego’s thought patterns of seeing differences and specialness. Today we hand over these mistaken ideas to the Holy Spirit to receive the truth instead. Through Christ’s vision we see innocence instead of guilt. Instead of comparing and focusing on differences, we see that every Son of God is still whole and perfect as God created them. All the worldly differences and mistaken thoughts mean nothing, because they are nothing.

We remember that only Love is real and that the ego’s thoughts mean nothing. Only in the ego’s illusions could they appear to be real. Now we choose to see past all ego thoughts to the truth.

We Are Grateful for Holy Spirit’s Vision

You want salvation. You want to be happy. You want peace. You do not have them now, because your mind is totally undisciplined, and you cannot distinguish between joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, love and fear. You are now learning how to tell them apart. And great indeed will be your reward.

Your decision to see is all that vision requires. What you want is yours. Do not mistake the little effort that is asked of you for an indication that our goal is of little worth. Can the salvation of the world be a trivial purpose? And can the world be saved if you are not? God has one Son, and he is the resurrection and the life. His will is done because all power is given him in Heaven and on earth. In your determination to see is vision given you.

What you desire you will see. Such is the real law of cause and effect as it operates in the world. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 20, W-pI.20.2:3-3:8;5:5-6. See also ACIM Lesson 20 Insights.)

We all come from Love and we all are still Love. Right now it may look like there are differences and individuality. Right now it looks like separation and specialness are real. As we choose to see through Holy Spirit’s eyes, we are able to see past differences to the Truth that “God has one Son.” We all are the same Light of Love and vision shows us that.

As we are willing to see through Christ’s vision, we see that in truth minds are joined in the one Mind of Love. As we awaken to this truth we help ourselves and the world. As we wake up from the dream of separation we see that nothing has happened to change God’s one Son. We see that behind the façade of differences only Love is real. We desire to see the Truth and we see it. And we are grateful that this is so.

Letting Love Be

The Love of God is what created me. The Love of God is
everything I am. The Love of God proclaimed me as His
Son. The Love of God within me sets me free.

Pain is my own idea. It is not a Thought of God, but one I
thought apart from Him and from His Will. His Will is joy,
and only joy for His beloved Son. And that I choose, instead
of what I made.

In silence and in true humility I seek God’s glory, to behold
it in the Son whom He created as my Self.

I seek the function that would set me free from all the vain
illusions of the world. Only the function God has given me
can offer freedom. Only this I seek, and only this will I

Our one Self was created by Love to be Love’s extension. As Love’s extension, our Self’s only function is to extend Love.

In the dream world of separation, forgiveness is Love’s reflection. Forgiveness clears away the interference for Love to be Itself. Thus the function God gave us in the world is to forgive or let go of the false idea of being separate from Love, our Creator. Love is already in us. We need only forgive to clear away our self-made barriers to Love’s presence. This is how we accept God’s Will to be joy-filled and at peace. This is how we accept God’s gift of Himself and all His glory.

Seeing the Reality of Love Everywhere

When you say, “Above all else I want to see this table differently,” you are making a commitment to withdraw your preconceived ideas about the table, and open your mind to what it is, and what it is for. You are not defining it in past terms. You are asking what it is, rather than telling it what it is. You are not binding its meaning to your tiny experience of tables, nor are you limiting its purpose to your little personal thoughts.

Hidden under all your ideas about it is its real purpose, the purpose it shares with all the universe.

In using the table as a subject for applying the idea for today, you are therefore really asking to see the purpose of the universe. You will be making this same request of each subject that you use in the practice periods. And you are making a commitment to each of them to let its purpose be revealed to you, instead of placing your own judgment upon it. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 28, W-pI.28.3;5:3-6:3. From the moment of our birth into this dream world, we have been learning to identify forms and what we think their purpose is. We believe this ability to label everything and identify its purpose is necessary for our survival. Yet all we are protecting is the “survival” of the image of the body. It is all a mechanism for maintaining the seeming reality of the world of separation.

The Course is guiding us to set aside our labels and our self-determined purposes and open our minds to a new way of seeing. This new way of seeing does not come through the body. It comes into our minds as we set aside our labels — our judgments. The truth of what we are is created by Love and thus has all Its characteristics. Only Love creates and only like Itself. God’s universe, the only real universe, is the universe of Love. The purpose of this universe is to extend Love and only Love eternally.

Thus when we ask to see the table differently we are expressing our willingness to set aside our label and open our minds to see beyond the form. Beyond all form is Love and nothing else. The only meaningful purpose in the universe is to extend Love. It is this we will see when we have set aside our judgment about what any form means and let ourselves be shown the purpose of the Universe.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit’s help to see past form to the reality of Love everywhere.

Letting Go of Denying Our Wholeness

Let healing be through you this very day. And as you rest in quiet, be prepared to give as you receive, to hold but what you give, and to receive the Word of God to take the place of all the foolish thoughts that ever were imagined. Now we come together to make well all that was sick, and offer blessing where there was attack. Nor will we let this function be forgot as every hour of the day slips by, remembering our purpose with this thought:

When I am healed I am not healed alone.
And I would bless my brothers, for I would
be healed with them, as they are healed with me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 137, W-pI.137.15. See also ACIM Lesson 137 Insights.)

The body and the world seem very real to us. We have invested in the false idea of separation and want it to be true. Deep within we know the idea is a lie but we hide it beneath layers of images we have convinced ourselves are true. But because these images are an unreal dream, they bring with them a sense of emptiness, weakness, instability and loss.

Beneath it all there is a persistent desire to return Home. We have lost our way but we have an ever-present Guide ready to lead us to our real Home where all strength is ours, where we are safe and one with All That is Real.

Today we would let go of our mistaken denial of Truth and welcome the Reality we never really lost. We will forgive the denial of Truth and Truth will return to the holy Mind we share with God and the one Self Love created.

Following the Guide to Truth

What has no meaning cannot be perceived. And meaning always looks within to find itself, and then looks out. All meaning that you give the world outside must thus reflect the sight you saw within; or better, if you saw at all or merely judged against. Vision is the means by which the Holy Spirit translates your nightmares into happy dreams; your wild hallucinations that show you all the fearful outcomes of imagined sin into the calm and reassuring sights with which He would replace them. These gentle sights and sounds are looked on happily, and heard with joy. They are His substitutes for all the terrifying sights and screaming sounds the ego’s purpose brought to your horrified awareness. They step away from sin, reminding you that it is not reality that frightens you, and that the errors which you made can be corrected.

Think but an instant just on this; you can behold the holiness God gave His Son. And never need you think that there is something else for you to see. (A Course in Miracles, T-20.viii.10,11:3-4. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The world we perceive is a projection of the mind that has chosen the ego’s purpose — to make separation appear real. Thus perception starts with belief in separation. Beliefs can be changed, so belief in separation can be changed to acceptance of the truth that only Oneness is real.

The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to guide us away from the belief in separation that could never be true to the full awareness that we remain one in the Mind of Love. The Holy Spirit’s guidance is kind and gentle. It helps us recognize that what we thought we wanted in the world of separation really gave us nothing. All we got was empty forms that we tried to give meaning, but what is nothing cannot have meaning.

While we choose the ego’s purpose, we are on an endless search, finding nothing. Ultimately we all come to the point of recognizing there must be a better way to find happiness and peace. Now we become willing to choose another Guide Whose purpose is to lead us to Reality and true meaning. Today we choose to follow the Guide to Love, the Guide to Truth.
