The Journey of a Teacher of God

The extent of the teacher of God’s faithfulness is the measure of his advancement in the curriculum. Does he still select some aspects of his life to bring to his learning, while keeping others apart? If so, his advancement is limited, and his trust not yet firmly established. Faithfulness is the teacher of God’s trust in the Word of God to set all things right; not some, but all. Generally, his faithfulness begins by resting on just some problems, remaining carefully limited for a time. To give up all problems to one Answer is to reverse the thinking of the world entirely. And that alone is faithfulness. Nothing but that really deserves the name. Yet each degree, however small, is worth achieving. Readiness, as the text notes, is not mastery. (A Course in Miracles, M-4.IX.1)

Accepting the fact that we remain one with God as we were created takes time in the dream of separation. We have long believed in the ego’s lie that tells us we are separate and alone and must defend the little territory we have carved off for ourselves alone. But we reach the realization that we cannot find happiness by following the ego’s direction. There must be a better way.

Hesitantly at first, we begin to bring some of our perceived problems to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His gentle correction. Being unsure that the Holy Spirit can really solve all our problems, we are not yet willing to bring everything to Him. Yet each time we do and experience the blessing of Holy Spirit’s solution, our trust and willingness grows.

God does not condemn us for our lapses, but welcomes us every time we are willing to listen to His Voice. Continued practice brings more experiences of success and our willingness grows. This is the journey of a teacher of God finding his way to the Home he never really left.

Accepting and Extending God’s Love

I am entrusted with the gifts of God. All things are given you. God’s trust in you is limitless. He knows His Son. He gives without exception, holding nothing back that can contribute to your happiness.

Christ’s hand has touched your shoulder, and you feel that you are not alone.

One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive yourself as lonely and afraid.

Become the living proof of what Christ’s touch can offer everyone. God has entrusted all His gifts to you. Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. Such is your mission now. For God entrusts the giving of His gifts to all who have received them. He has shared His joy with you. And now you go to share it with the world. We are loved beyond our capacity to imagine in the dream because the dream is the denial of God’s Love. Though we have denied His Love, God has never withdrawn It. We need only accept God’s gift to feel His Love inspire us to share it with all.

Love’s Nature is to extend Itself. We know that we have God’s gift of Love by sharing It with all our brothers. Only our guilt and unforgiveness stands in the way of our experiencing the eternal receiving and giving of Love. This is why the daily, moment by moment practice of offering all our thoughts in the world to the Holy Spirit to receive His interpretation is how we recognize God’s eternal gift. It is how we remember we are not alone. It is how we remember we lack nothing. With this practice we naturally answer calls for Love, from others or ourselves, by extending Love and blessing.

Today we would practice forgiving that we may accept God’s Love.

Accepting Freedom from Fear and Guilt

The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind, and offers it the way to peace. Salvation is a thought you share with God…

We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your one Self.

Salvation comes from my one Self. Its Thoughts are mine to use.

Each time today you tell your frantic mind salvation comes from your one Self, you lay another treasure in your growing store. And all of it is given everyone who asks for it, and will accept the gift. Think, then, how much is given unto you to give this day, that it be given you! Salvation, freedom from fear and guilt, is always within us. Seeking for salvation — seeking for happiness and peace — in things, places and situations outside of us will never bring us what we seek. What we seek is always with us.

When we tell ourselves, “Salvation comes from my one Self,” we are reminding ourselves that in truth we are already free of fear and guilt. We are already and have always been innocent. We are Love and nothing else. As we remind ourselves of this fact, we are extending the gift of God’s Love to all, for we all share the one Self Love created.

Today we would give the gift of remembering the loving Thoughts of our one Self which we share with all in the Heart of God.

Healing the Cause of Sickness

[The body] can be seen as not your home, but merely as an aid to help you reach the Home where God abides.

With this as purpose is the body healed. It is not used to witness to the dream of separation and disease. Nor is it idly blamed for what it did not do. It serves to help the healing of God’s Son, and for this purpose it cannot be sick. It will not join a purpose not your own, and you have chosen that it not be sick. All miracles are based upon this choice, and given you the instant it is made.

But never you alone. This world is but the dream that you can be alone, and think without affecting those apart from you. To be alone must mean you are apart, and if you are, you cannot but be sick.

Your home is built upon your brother’s health, upon his happiness, his sinlessness, and everything his Father promised him.… It is an ark of safety, resting on God’s promise that His Son is safe forever in Himself. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.VII.3:6-4:6;5:1-3;7:1,5. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The key to all healing is learning and accepting that separation is impossible and that we remain united with our Source. There can be no sickness in God, our Source. And if we remain at one with our Source, there can be no sickness in us, God’s Son.

The appearance of sickness is simply a symptom that we are believing in the impossible. We are believing that we have succeeded in separating from our Source. To pray for the healing of the symptoms is to attempt to fix the effect instead of the cause.

To ask for help to release the mistaken belief in being separate is to ask for help to heal the cause of all sickness. This is another way of saying to accept help to forgive is to allow healing in our minds and to accept our oneness with our brothers. Thus are our brothers healed along with us.

Living as a Teacher of God

“[Teachers of God] give form to the lessons the Holy Spirit teaches. For those as yet unable to turn to Him for help, they represent Him, offering His help in a form that can be recognized. There is nothing they cannot do; their trust and willingness, given to the Holy Spirit, makes all miracles possible. They offer miracles to all they look upon, one for every problem that appears. In their company, all tears are replaced with happy laughter, all sadness with gratitude and joy.” (From the Christ Mind II, p. 142)

Holy Spirit, we know you are always with us. We trust in Your help to see as You would see, to do as you would have us do, to speak what you would have us speak and go where you would have us go.

We give you our willingness with confidence that you will strengthen it with Yours. Today we will be mindful of our state of peace. When we feel a disturbance, we will hand it to you for clarification and healing. Thus would we teach by the demonstration of letting You lead the way.

God’s Way Is Sure

Whatever I see reflects my thoughts. It is my thoughts that tell me where I am and what I am. The fact that I see a world in which there is suffering and loss and death shows me that I am seeing only the representation of my insane thoughts, and am not allowing my real thoughts to cast their beneficent light on what I see. Yet God’s way is sure. The images I have made cannot prevail against Him because it is not my will that they do so. My will is His, and I will place no other gods before Him. We are always getting instant feedback about what we think we are. When we see a world of suffering, loss and death, it is showing us that we are believing we are separate from God. We are denying that He is our Source and our very Being.

This denial does not change the Truth of what we are, but makes us unaware of It. In fact, this denial makes God our enemy because the acceptance of our Source would mean the end of the appearances that we value in the world. It would mean the end of the special individual identity we call our own.

When we believe in this identity, the loss of it is perceived as death. Yet we are reminded again and again that we remain as God created us. We remain in His Mind at one with It and share all His attributes. Our real Identity shares God’s Will and our only purpose is to let the Love of God extend through us. As we extend Love, we acknowledge that we have Love and are Love. This is how we share God’s way and experience the certainty of God’s changeless Love.

Letting Love Guide Our Way

“The teachers of God rest content in the readiness to receive the gifts God has given them. Their trust allows the Holy Spirit to guide them in all they do and say. Their thoughts are given over to Love; what is not Love is given over to correction. The teachers of God know that everything that happens, whether within or without, is either Love or a call for Love. Their function is therefore very simple. They give Love to all and everyone and everything without exception. To what is Love they join, to the call for Love they respond with Love. Always do they answer the call for Love, and always do they let their answer be guided. A smile, a kind word, a helping hand, the form changes to fit the need but always is the content the same. A call for Love is recognized, and Love is given in the form most helpful.  (From the Christ Mind Book II, p. 141)

Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, my words, my hands, my feet today. Help me be a messenger of God’s Love. Show me calls for Love so that I may answer with Love. Help me to see the Truth as you see It. I would recognize my brother as He is and learn What I am as well. With Your help, I will remember I remain as Love created me, along with all my brothers.
