Joining with Our Brother to Accept Our One True Identity

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted [when we accepted Atonement for ourselves]. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 139, W-pI.139.9. See also ACIM Lesson 139 Insights.)

Together we are the beingness of God’s Love… We share the one Mind of God… This is the truth. Our purpose here now is to join with our brothers to reinforce the truth together.

Today we practice opening to the Holy Spirit’s inspiration to show us how we can be truly helpful in fulfilling our special function… Today we step back and listen… We open to the Light within our minds and accept the healing of our perceptions… We willingly let go of belief in separation and let the Holy Spirit enlighten our minds… This is all we want. This is all we need in our practicing today.

Awakening to the Call of Love

No one can fail to do what God appointed him to do. When you forget, remember that you walk with Him and with His Word upon your heart. Who could despair when Hope like this is his? Illusions of despair may seem to come, but learn how not to be deceived by them. Behind each [illusion] there is reality and there is God. Why would you wait for this and trade it for illusions, when His Love is but an instant farther on the road where all illusions end? The end is sure and guaranteed by God.

Now we are sure we do not walk alone. For God is here, and with Him all our brothers. Now we know that we will never lose the way again. (A Course in Miracles, C.ep.1:4-10;4:3-5)

In our hearts, in our true Identity, we know that we remain united with the Love that is our Source. This can never change. This Heart is eternally calling to us with the song of Love… reminding us of What and Where we truly are.

If we align with the thought system of separation, the song of Love is muted and replaced with the sounds of destruction and images of fear, guilt, attack and loss. Yet the song of Love continues to call to us.

Sooner or later in the dream of time, we will all hear the song again. It will touch us and inspire us to choose another path. We will turn away from the search for specialness and choose to recognize that we are one with the Love in all our brothers. The images of the world will lose their seeming value. The joy of Love will draw us to It and we will return to our Home in gratitude.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Loving Thoughts

To forgive is merely to remember only the loving thoughts you gave in the past, and those that were given you. All the rest must be forgotten. Forgiveness is a selective remembering, based not on your selection.

If all but loving thoughts has been forgotten, what remains is eternal. And the transformed past is made like the present. No longer does the past conflict with now. This continuity extends the present by increasing its reality and its value in your perception of it. In these loving thoughts is the spark of beauty hidden in the ugliness of the unholy relationship where hatred is remembered; yet [the loving thoughts are] there to come alive as the relationship is given to Him Who gives it life and beauty. That is why Atonement centers on the past, which is the source of separation, and where it must be undone. For separation must be corrected where it was made. We already have the key that will let us experience the loveliness and joy of our unity with each other and our Creator. The only reason we do not use this key is because we think something in the world we experience with the body is more valuable, more desirable, than the limitless Love, deep peace and unspeakable joy of our one Self. It is this misplaced value that seems to give reality to the world we experience. Consistently the Course offers us pointers to show us that our values are misplaced and help us recognize that we really want to remember Love.

Along with these reminders, we have the Holy Spirit in our minds ready to offer His vision and interpretation in place of our mistaken beliefs and help us let them go. We need only be willing to accept this help. As we accept Holy Spirit’s loving thoughts which show us a loving world in the eternal present, we open to experience the loveliness and joy of our true Nature.

Stepping Toward the Real World

The real world holds a counterpart for each unhappy thought reflected in your world; a sure correction for the sights of fear and sounds of battle which your world contains. The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace. Nothing but rest is there. There are no cries of pain and sorrow heard, for nothing there remains outside forgiveness. And the sights are gentle. Only happy sights and sounds can reach the mind that has forgiven itself.

What need has such a mind for thoughts of death, attack and murder? What can it perceive surrounding it but safety, love and joy? What is there it would choose to be condemned, and what is there that it would judge against? The world it sees arises from a mind at peace within itself. No danger lurks in anything it sees, for it is kind, and only kindness does it look upon. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 291, W-pII.8.2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 291 Insights.)

Do we want to perceive a world of safety and peace, of Love and joy? We need only use the means already given us to have this experience. The means is forgiveness. Not only do we have the means, but we have a Helper Who sees us truly and knows exactly what would help us forgive and let go of our erroneous thoughts. We are not alone, but we do need to be willing to accept the Help given us.

Our prayer for today: Holy Spirit, help me see all things as You see them. Help me overlook the false images of the ego and recognize them as the illusions they are. Help me rise above and see the Love that is everywhere, always. With Your help today, I will take another step closer to the experience of the real world, the forgiven world.

Accepting Happiness

The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. The Son of God is you.

Only by fulfilling the function given you by God will you be happy. That is because your function is to be happy by using the means by which happiness becomes inevitable. There is no other way. Therefore, every time you choose whether or not to fulfill your function [of forgiveness], you are really choosing whether or not to be happy.

Today, then, let us practice with these thoughts:

Let me not forget my function.
Let me not try to substitute mine for God’s.
Let me forgive and be happy. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 64, W-pI.64.3:3-4:4;6:1-4. See also ACIM Lesson 64 Insights.)

In every moment we choose between judgment or forgiveness. It is the choice between depression or happiness, guilt or innocence, fear or Love, chaos or peace.

As we practice bringing all our decisions to the Holy Spirit in our mind with willingness to follow His guidance, we are choosing to be free. We are choosing to be happy. We are choosing the salvation of the Son of God, our one Self.

Today we have the opportunity to practice fulfilling the function given us by God through which we accept His joy, His peace, His Love as our own.

We Are Free to Return to Love

This world will change through you. No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. He is not led by force, but only love. He is not judged, but only sanctified. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 125, W-pI.125.2. See also ACIM Lesson 125 Insights.)

God is only Love and Love does not condemn. Thus there is no reason to fear God because all He ever gives is Love, and He gives It without limit or judgment. As part of His gift of Love, He has given us a Guide, an Inner Teacher in our minds to teach us how to release ourselves from the mistaken belief that we are separate from God. We have already been given the means to forgive the past and welcome the Love that is ever present in the eternal now.

As we are willing to accept His help, our inner Teacher will help us see that our brother is also only Love, created the same as us and one with us. As we see this, we learn that we are also only Love and, together with our brother, one with our Creator and our Source. Today we are willing to be taught how to free ourselves from fear and guilt and return to Love.

Our True Home Is in God’s Peace

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you.

You rest within the peace of God today, quiet and unafraid. Each brother comes to take his rest, and offer it to you. We rest together here, for thus our rest is made complete, and what we give today we have received already. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 109, W-pI.109.8:1-9:3. We are returning to our right mind, where we rest in God’s peace and joy… We are returning to our true nature — Love. We are remembering that we never left Love, even though we may dream of conflict, scarcity and death… As we remember the truth about ourselves and every brother, we call all to join with us in our rest… in our peace…

We remember that what is true about our one Identity is true for every brother… We remember that every brother is safe in God along with us… We remember that every brother is God’s pure Love and Light along with us… We remember that every dream story of imagining that we are different and alone is meaningless…

We free ourselves from the radical ups and downs that the ego thought system brings… We feel the stability and steadiness of God’s changeless Love… We remember we are safe eternally as pure Spirit in the Heart of God, our true Home.
