Being Open to Love’s Correction

Robert:
I have had glimpses of what it is like to see with forgiving eyes, the eyes of Christ. In these moments I feel great joy and love and peace. My heart overflows with gratitude so that the Love I feel extends to all, without limit. These holy instants inspire me to continue practicing forgiveness. Forgiveness clears the way for the only experience I really want. Nothing but the full experience of God’s Love will ever truly content me. Attempts to find happiness anywhere else simply delay the experience.

To make way for the experience of limitless Love, my practice today is to walk with the Self that remembers Love and let It be my Interpreter of all things. Love needs no interpretation but in a thought system that is a defense against Love, the images it presents can be reinterpreted by the one Self to clear the way to the full remembrance of What is real. It is this correction I seek today.

Mary:
It is my job today to pay attention to the guidance of my inner Teacher and let all my perceptions be corrected. If I think I already know, I will not be open for correction. So my opportunity today is to pay attention to where I think I already know and be willing to hand these perspectives to the Holy Spirit to be corrected.

This is how my mind is healed. This is how I wake up from the dream. This is where I find peace instead of conflict. My focus today is on letting my mind be healed by noticing when I am choosing something other than a peaceful state of mind. Correction of my mistaken perceptions is all this day is really for. And I give thanks.

Keeping an Open Mind

Holy Spirit to Mary:
Let go and let God. You do this by relaxing your hold on the world and opening to a different perspective… This openness to your inner Teacher brings with it a feeling of gentleness… kindness… and patience… It brings a feeling of calmness… and sense of well being… You remember that in truth everything is all right… You remember that you are safe along with all your brothers… and that nothing has happened to change God’s one Son… Instead of anxiety or sense of lack, there is a quietness… All this comes as you are willing to let go and let God. Practice this today.

Holy Spirit to Robert:
Remember Who you are. You, along with all your brothers, are God’s Son, and therefore share all of God’s attributes. You have all of God’s Love, all of His peace, all of His joy. You share the innocence of God’s perfect Love. Every brother is the same as you, for what is joined cannot be different.

If you believe you are something else, separate from the one Son that is God’s creation, you will perceive yourself as guilty, weak and alone. But this is not what you are; it is just a false image that could never be true. Remember this about every appearance of another and remember it about yourself. Belief in a false idea does not make it real. It only makes it seem real. Let go of the belief and the seeming reality disappears.

The moment-by-moment practice of bringing all your perceptions to the Holy Spirit for His help to see truly is how you let go of mistaken beliefs that hide reality from your awareness. Let Holy Spirit be your Guide in every moment today. Keep your mind open to His vision and it will be a joyous day indeed.

Forgiveness Brings Happiness

Robert:
To paraphrase a Bible verse, this is the moment Love has made. I will rejoice and be happy in it. To be happy in this moment, I must relinquish all thoughts of the past. That means I must forgive, which is letting go of the past. When I am able to experience the moment without trying to interpret based on the past, it becomes a moment of joy and peace.

This is what I really want. Accepting this is accepting God’s gift to His Creation. I accept it by letting myself see all things through Christ’s forgiving eyes — seeing without the past. Today my prayer to the Self we share is: Help me see all things as they are in truth. And I will rejoice and be happy.

Mary:
A very helpful message in A Course in Miracles has been: “I could choose peace instead of this.” There are still many times when I get caught up in the “problems” of the world. My practice now is to pay attention to when this happens and realize that it does not make me happy. When I get caught up in perceiving problems, I usually feel tense and irritated at what appears to be going on outside me. I now see that this is just a mistake that can be corrected. To blame myself for making this mistake is just to compound the mistake. But the practice of stepping back and remembering I could choose peace instead of this is really a huge blessing.

Once I have remembered this, it becomes easier to relax a little and focus on opening my mind to accept Holy Spirit’s peace instead of the ego’s mistaken thoughts. As I allow peace to be felt more fully, it becomes easier to laugh at what I took so seriously before. With this comes the remembrance that we are all still safe in the one Mind of God. We have merely been pretending to be separate people with separate interests. It has never been true. Peace now reigns where there once was the false perception of separation.

This is my practice today and every day. This is forgiveness in action. This is how I can be truly helpful. The Course tells me that I bring peace to every mind through my forgiveness. And I am grateful that this is so.

See the Face of Christ

Mary:
This is my prayer today: Today I ask that the veil of separation be lifted that I may see the face of Christ in everyone I meet or even think of. Today I ask to remember the truth of Love’s oneness. Today I ask to remember that I rest in God and that vision is His gift as I place my trust in Him alone. Today I ask to accept God’s peace and extend what I receive. Amen

Robert:
The ego loves to make up rules. It uses rules to try to bring stability to an unstable world of illusions. But rules devised to bring order to illusions are themselves illusions. So the ego’s rules may seem to bring a semblance of safety, but their instability fosters an underlying fear.

The way out of this is to remember that we are under no laws but God’s. God has only one law that never changes: The law of Love. Love can only extend Love and receive Love, because that is Its Nature. I see that I have a well established habit of making up rules. At times these rules seem to be helpful yet if they are not expressions of God’s law of Love, sooner or later it becomes clear that these laws I make are limitations and therefore interfere with the experience of the eternal flow of Love that is God’s law.

Today I lay all my self-made rules about the world on Holy Spirit’s altar. His Light of Love shines away the limitations and makes way for the free giving and receiving of Love. This is how I let the veil be lifted so that I may see the face of Christ everywhere.

One Step at a Time with Holy Spirit

Mary:
In our reading this morning in A Course in Miracles, this is what stood out:

Then let our brothers lean their tired heads against our shoulders as they rest a while. We offer thanks for them. For if we can direct them to the peace that we would find, the way is opening at last to us. An ancient door is swinging free again; a long forgotten Word re-echoes in our memory, and gathers clarity as we are willing once again to hear. (W-pI.195.7)

I am reminded once again how important willingness to hear the Holy Spirit’s perspective is to my waking up from the dream. My willingness to hear accelerates as I am more and more willing to accept peace instead of judgment and conflict. Minute-by-minute I have the opportunity to hear the message of the truth from my true Self.

Today I have another opportunity to be willing once again to hear. I can tell how am doing with this by the level of peace and contentment I feel. Easy does it… one step at a time with Holy Spirit guiding the way. And I give thanks.

Robert:
Discontent is a sure sign that I am defending against God’s Will and therefore denying my own true Will. I have chosen instead a wish to have my own way, to separate off from the Source of my completion. The sense of incompletion that comes with this wish further magnifies the discontent. Contentment can never be found within the wish to be separate from my completion.

Discontentment is inevitable when I identify with being a body because the body is a limit that makes the appearance of being separate from God’s completion seem real. As long as I give credence to the seeming reality of any form, I will be discontent. Only God’s limitless, changeless Love can content the Son of God.

Today I will be vigilant for signs of discontent and bring them to the Holy Spirit to let His loving Light shine upon them to show me there is no cause for discontent. I remain as Love created me. As I remember this I remember that I remain complete and whole, changelessly one with my loving Father. I am grateful that this is so.

See Only Love

Robert:
Today we read in A Course in Miracles, “Only appreciation is an appropriate response to your brother. Gratitude is due him for both his loving thought and his appeals for help, for both are capable of bringing love into your awareness if you perceive them truly.” (T-12.I.6:1-2)

If I am disturbed by anyone’s behavior, it does not seem like they deserve appreciation. This is because I am perceiving my brother as a body, which is a false image. Being an image, the body has no value or meaning of its own. No appreciation is due to a body, which is simply an empty image. Appreciation is due to what my brother really is, which is an extension of God’s Love.

The appearance of a brother as something that I need to protect myself from, something capable of disturbing my peace, is a call for help. At the very least it is my own call for help, for I am perceiving myself as a body and therefore denying the Love that I am. I need help to let go of this misperception and to accept the Love that is always there.

The same is true if a brother appears to be reacting to me as if I were a body. He is really asking for help to look past the denial of Love (the body) and to remember the Love he is. The answer to this is always to respond with Love. This is how I learn, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to look past appearances and see only Love. This is how I learn that only Love is real.

Today my prayer is to be open to Holy Spirit’s vision to recognize calls for Love and answer them with Love.

Mary:
As I went to Spirit in a place of quietness, I received an image of an ocean of Love. This picture represents the beingness of Love That we all share. This beingness of Love is What God is and What we are. I am reminded that there are no separate parts. It is all just one beingness of Love. I am told that this is how I am to see every brother — see every brother as the same beingness of Love That God is and That I am. This is the opposite of what I see through the body’s eyes.

It is my opportunity today to practice letting the veil be lifted so that I can recognize the one beingness of Love That is everywhere. To do this consistently I need to recognize all the barriers to Love that I am giving meaning to and be willing to let the Holy Spirit show me the Love that is behind each separate image.

The Holy Spirit has often reminded me that there are no differences and that the differences I give meaning to are simply mistaken thoughts that come from joining with the ego split mind. If I really want to wake up from the fearful dream of being separate from Love, I will choose often to join with my inner Teacher to see the Love That is always there. This is my opportunity today. And I give thanks.

The Purpose of Forgiveness

Mary:
I am seeing that forgiveness is my only purpose. A way to define forgiveness is let go and let God.

I am recognizing that I made up a story and believed that it was real. Through the daily process of forgiveness, I am learning again and again that the story is not true. As I daily practice stepping back and quietly asking what is true, the answer I receive again and again is that only Love is true. Now the purpose of each day is to practice accepting this more and more.

I still find myself thinking that something other than Love is true, and my opportunity now is to catch these times of misperception and hand them over to the Holy Spirit to be undone. This is the purpose of every day. The purpose of forgiveness opens my heart and mind to the beautiful and glorious truth that the whole Sonship is still the pure Light of Love and has never changed.

I need mind purification until I am not tempted by yet another form of specialness. And so today I have another opportunity to forgive and forget the story that something could happen to change God’s one Son.

Robert:
The need for forgiveness arises when I believe in an image of myself as separate from Love—I am identifying with a body image that can be harmed in some way. Because this image is believed to be separate from God, a sense of unworthiness and vulnerability is inevitable.

Unworthiness is not a happy feeling. The ego’s answer to this is to project unworthiness on other body images. If someone else is more unworthy, then I seem to be less unworthy. This does not really accomplish anything, for it holds the idea that unworthiness is possible firmly in the mind. It does not question the truth of the perceived unworthiness.

The purpose of forgiveness is to remove the belief in unworthiness and separation entirely from the confused mind that believes the image is true. This relief can only come from the part of my mind that does not believe it, but remembers that I, along with all my brothers, remain as Love created me. This is why I must bring all thoughts of fear, guilt, judgment and limitation to the Holy Spirit to receive His kind and gentle correction. From the Mind that knows the truth, the misperception that it is possible to be separate from Love is corrected.

Today I dedicate to practice letting Holy Spirit guide all my perceptions, that I may see the Love He sees.
