Learning to See Love’s Presence in All

⁶In your questioning of illusions, ask yourself if it is really sane to perceive what was as now. ⁷If you remember the past as you look upon your brother, you will be unable to perceive the reality that is now.

…the past can cast no shadow to darken the present, unless you are afraid of light. ⁵And only if you are would you choose to bring darkness with you, and by holding it in your mind, see it as a dark cloud that shrouds your brothers and conceals their reality from your sight.

This darkness is in you. ²The Christ as revealed to you now has no past, for He is changeless, and in His changelessness lies your release. ³For if He is as He was created, there is no guilt in Him. ⁴No cloud of guilt has risen to obscure Him, and He stands revealed in everyone you meet because you see Him through Himself. ⁵To be born again is to let the past go, and look without condemnation upon the present. ⁶The cloud that obscures God’s Son to you is the past, and if you would have it past and gone, you must not see it now. ⁷If you see it now in your illusions, it has not gone from you, although it is not there.

The miracle enables you to see your brother without his past, and so perceive him as born again. ²His errors are all past, and by perceiving him without them you are releasing him. ³And since his past is yours, you share in this release. ⁴Let no dark cloud out of your past obscure him from you, for truth lies only in the present, and you will find it if you seek it there. The Course often uses light as a metaphor for Love. Fear is the absence of Love. Fear is darkness and Love is light. When we try to bring the past to the present, we are bringing the darkness of the past to hide the Light of Love that is in every Son of God.

Our mind is healed when we no longer bring the past to influence our present awareness. In the present moment, only Love is there, free of the past. As we forgive the past, we see our brother truly as the Love he is. In this recognition, we see ourselves as we were created — Love and nothing else, free of guilt and fear.

Awakening to Our Life in Love’s Oneness

There are not different kinds of life, for life is like the truth. ²It does not have degrees. ³It is the one condition in which all that God created share. ⁴Like all His Thoughts, it has no opposite. ⁵There is no death because what God created shares His life. ⁶There is no death because an opposite to God does not exist. ⁷There is no death because the Father and the Son are one.

Death is the thought that you are separate from your Creator. ²It is the belief conditions change, emotions alternate because of causes you cannot control, you did not make, and you can never change. ³It is the fixed belief ideas can leave their source, and take on qualities the source does not contain, becoming different from their own origin, apart from it in kind as well as distance, time and form.

His holy home we strive to keep today as He established it, and wills it be forever and forever. ²He is Lord of what we think today. ³And in His Thoughts, which have no opposite, we understand there is one life, and that we share with Him….

We share one life because we have one Source, a Source from which perfection comes to us, remaining always in the holy minds which He created perfect. ²As we were, so are we now and will forever be. (A Course in Miracles, W-167.1;4;11:1-3;12:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 167 Insights.)

It is said that everyone in this world fears death. But it is not our true Self that fears death. Our true Self is Love and nothing else. Fear is simply the absence of Love, which is impossible in truth. Only Love is real. It is only a false image that is afraid of death, but that is a construct of the ego.

We have identified with the ego as what we are. With this misidentification, we experience a dream of lack of Love. This would be death if it were true. What is unreal can never be true. Despite our fearful dreams, we continue to live in the Love of God. Love is our Home, our very nature. Love is What we are. As we forgive our mistaken identification with the ego, we remember our eternal Life in God.

Awakening to God’s Glory in Our Self

You can encounter only part of yourself because you are part of God, Who is everything. ²His power and glory are everywhere, and you cannot be excluded from them. ³The ego teaches that your strength is in you alone. ⁴The Holy Spirit teaches that all strength is in God and therefore in you. ⁵God wills no one suffer. ⁶He does not will anyone to suffer for a wrong decision, including you. ⁷That is why He has given you the means for undoing it. ⁸Through His power and glory all your wrong decisions are undone completely, releasing you and your brother from every imprisoning thought any part of the Sonship holds. ⁹Wrong decisions have no power, because they are not true. ¹⁰The imprisonment they seem to produce is no more true than they are.

Power and glory belong to God alone. ²So do you. ³God gives whatever belongs to Him because He gives of Himself, and everything belongs to Him. ⁴Giving of yourself is the function He gave you. ⁵Fulfilling it perfectly will let you remember what you have of Him, and by this you will remember also what you are in Him. ⁶You cannot be powerless to do this, because this is your power. ⁷Glory is God’s gift to you, because that is what He is. ⁸See this glory everywhere to remember what you are. We have not lost our place in the heart of God. He has given all that He Is to His one Son. Together we are all united as His one Son whom He looks upon with Love and joy.

Today we practice letting the Holy Spirit show us the truth He sees in God’s Creation — our one Self. As we let this vision in, conflict is replaced by peace. Sadness and lonelineness are replace by joy. Fear is dispelled. And the presence of His Love is welcome. We awaken to the Self God created one with Him.

We are grateful that we remain as God created us.

The Joy of God Is Ours Now

³Pain is but witness to the Son’s mistakes in what he thinks he is. ⁴It is a dream of fierce retaliation for a crime that could not be committed; for attack on what is wholly unassailable. ⁵It is a nightmare of abandonment by an Eternal Love, which could not leave the Son whom It created out of love.

It is your thoughts alone that cause you pain. ²Nothing external to your mind can hurt or injure you in any way. ³There is no cause beyond yourself that can reach down and bring oppression. ⁴No one but yourself affects you. ⁵There is nothing in the world that has the power to make you ill or sad, or weak or frail. ⁶But it is you who have the power to dominate all things you see by merely recognizing what you are. ⁷As you perceive the harmlessness in them, they will accept your holy will as theirs. ⁸And what was seen as fearful now becomes a source of innocence and holiness.

My holy brother, think of this awhile: The world you see does nothing. ²It has no effects at all. ³It merely represents your thoughts. ⁴And it will change entirely as you elect to change your mind, and choose the joy of God as what you really want. We can “dominate” the world we see because what we see is only a projection from our mind. Nothing exists outside of us. We perceive what we believe we are reflected back to us.

ACIM is a training program to teach us how to change our mind about our world. We need to learn first that our thoughts and beliefs are the cause of what we perceive. The next part of the lesson is that we can change our thoughts and beliefs. The next step is to accept the Help we are given in our mind to let go of false beliefs and learn to recognize the reality of Love. This process the Course calls forgiveness. As we let go of mistaken beliefs, we awaken to the Love in which we live and have our being.

We are God’s Son, forever united with our Father, safe in His eternal Love. His joy is ours, now and forever.

The Path to Certain Safety and Peace

Forgiveness lets me know that minds are joined.

Forgiveness is the means appointed for perception’s ending. ²Knowledge is restored after perception first is changed, and then gives way entirely to what remains forever past its highest reach. ³For sights and sounds, at best, can serve but to recall the memory that lies beyond them all. ⁴Forgiveness sweeps away distortions, and opens the hidden altar to the truth. ⁵Its lilies shine into the mind, and call it to return and look within, to find what it has vainly sought without. ⁶For here, and only here, is peace of mind restored, for this the dwelling place of God Himself.

In quiet may forgiveness wipe away my dreams of separation and of sin. ²Then let me, Father, look within, and find Your promise of my sinlessness is kept; Your Word remains unchanged within my mind, Your Love is still abiding in my heart. Without belief in separation, there is no need for perception. Perception involves a perceiver and something separate to be perceived. When we forgive the wish for specialness and separation, the need for perception fades. When forgiveness is complete, perception is no more. With complete forgiveness, all that is acknowledged is Love’s oneness.

In Love there is nothing external to perceive. In this recognition we find perfect peace. The path from conflict to peace, from fear to Love, is forgiveness. We have been given a Guide to help us follow the path that is lit with Love and brings us Home to It’s certain safety, It’s peace and joy.

Love’s Oneness Is Our Natural Home

The past is over. It can touch me not.

Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. ²For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. ³How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? ⁴This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. ⁵It has no past. ⁶For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.

Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. ²For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. ³Here is the end of guilt. ⁴And here am I made ready for Your final step. ⁵Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain? All of our unhappiness, fear and guilt come from thoughts about the past. It doesn’t seem to us that the past does not exist and never was. Memories about the past are the ego’s trick to block our awareness of the present moment.

Love is all there is in the present moment. In It’s oneness, Love is eternally peaceful. Love joyously extends Itself, giving Itself freely, without limit. As we let ourselves dwell in the present by forgiving the past, we join with our Creator in the eternal extension of Love.

This is our true vocation, our natural Home. We are eternally safe from all intrusions of a past that never was. Today we remember to let go of the past and claim our inheritance as God’s Son.

The Choice That Leads to Heaven

The world is false perception. ²It is born of error, and it has not left its source. ³It will remain no longer than the thought that gave it birth is cherished. ⁴When the thought of separation has been changed to one of true forgiveness, will the world be seen in quite another light; and one which leads to truth, where all the world must disappear and all its errors vanish. ⁵Now its source has gone, and its effects are gone as well.

The world was made as an attack on God. ²It symbolizes fear. ³And what is fear except love’s absence? ⁴Thus the world was meant to be a place where God could enter not, and where His Son could be apart from Him.

As sight was made to lead away from truth, it can be redirected. ²Sounds become the call for God, and all perception can be given a new purpose by the One Whom God appointed Savior to the world. ³Follow His light, and see the world as He beholds it. ⁴Hear His Voice alone in all that speaks to you. ⁵And let Him give you peace and certainty… (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.3.1:1–2:4;4:1-5)

Our experience in this world denies our reality. God’s Love is not recognized in this world. Love is one and separation does not exist in Love.

We are being called to welcome God’s Voice which teaches us to remember how to see the world truly. As we let our perceptions be transformed with the Holy Spirit’s help, the world of fear and hate is transformed into Heaven’s Love.

We can choose to give priority to this Voice. We just need to be willing to see the world through eyes of Love. With this vision, conflict will be recognized as meaningless. Differences will fade as the Light of Love fills our mind. Our brothers will be recognized as one with us in Love. We will learn to see a forgiven world which brings us to Heaven’s open door.

We choose Love today.
