The Gift We Give Our Self and the World

The memory of God comes to the quiet mind. ²It cannot come where there is conflict, for a mind at war against itself remembers not eternal gentleness. ³The means of war are not the means of peace, and what the warlike would remember is not love. ⁴War is impossible unless belief in victory is cherished. ⁵Conflict within you must imply that you believe the ego has the power to be victorious.

Conflict must be between two forces. ²It cannot exist between one power and nothingness. ³There is nothing you could attack that is not part of you. ⁴And by attacking it you make two illusions of yourself, in conflict with each other. ⁵And this occurs whenever you look on anything that God created with anything but love. …⁹Let all this madness be undone for you, and turn in peace to the rememberance of God, still shining in your quiet mind.

Illusion meets illusion; truth, itself. ²The meeting of illusions leads to war. ³Peace, looking on itself, extends itself. ⁴War is the condition in which fear is born, and grows and seeks to dominate. ⁵Peace is the state where love abides, and seeks to share itself. ⁶Conflict and peace are opposites. ⁷Where one abides the other cannot be; where either goes the other disappears. ⁸So is the memory of God obscured in minds that have become illusions’ battleground. ⁹Yet far beyond this senseless war it shines, ready to be remembered when you side with peace. Imagine what life would be like without any conflict. To the ego, this would be impossible. To our true Self, this is the only Reality. There is no conflict within what is all the same; this is the condition of Love’s oneness.

Any moment our peace is disturbed is a call for Love. The means for release from all pain and suffering is to forgive the wish for specialness. This wish is the cause of all division, and subsequent conflict.

Today we can give ourselves a gift — the decision to be vigilant for any sign of conflict and recognize it as our call for Love. This is the first step toward healing our mind. When recognized, the call for Love is responded to with Love. Division is healed and the peace of Love’s unity replaces division and conflict. This gift is given to our Self and every brother, for we are one and the same.

Forgiveness Lets Love Be

I have no cause for anger or for fear, for You surround me. And in every need that I perceive, Your grace suffices me.

Father, let me remember You are here, and I am not alone. ²Surrounding me is everlasting Love. ³I have no cause for anything except the perfect peace and joy I share with You. ⁴What need have I for anger or for fear? ⁵Surrounding me is perfect safety. ⁶Can I be afraid, when Your eternal promise goes with me? ⁷Surrounding me is perfect sinlessness. ⁸What can I fear, when You created me in holiness as perfect as Your Own?

God’s grace suffices us in everything that He would have us do. ²And only that we choose to be our will as well as His. (A Course in Miracles, W-348. See also ACIM Lesson 348 Insights.)

Being Love, God’s Will is to Love. As His extension of Love, we share that same function to Love. In this dream, forgiveness is the way we let Love be. Forgiveness releases us to be joyous and at peace.

The Voice for Love, our true Voice, will always lead us to extend Love. Whenever we feel unhappy, fearful or guilty, we have put a loveless thought in charge of our mind. We have denied the limitless Love we are. Each time we experience any form of lack of Love, it is our call for Love. It may appear to be a brother’s call for Love or our own. In either case the answer is to let Love come forth.

When we let this happen, joy replaces sadness, peace replaces guilt, and Love replaces fear. We accept our Reality as God’s Son.

Celebrate the Truth Today

God’s peace and joy are mine.

²Today I will accept God’s peace and joy, in glad exchange for all the substitutes that I have made for happiness and peace.

Let me be still and listen to the truth.

²Let my own feeble voice be still, and let me hear the mighty Voice for Truth Itself assure me that I am God’s perfect Son. (A Course in Miracles, W-118.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 118 Insights.)

Today can be a day of celebration. Today we can let ourselves hear God’s Voice tell us that we are His beloved Son. He has given us all His joy, peace and Love. There is no greater gift. It lasts forever.

Everyday Opportunities

When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. ²As you see him you will see yourself. ³As you treat him you will treat yourself. ⁴As you think of him you will think of yourself. ⁵Never forget this, for in him you will find yourself or lose yourself. ⁶Whenever two Sons of God meet, they are given another chance at salvation. ⁷Do not leave anyone without giving salvation to him and receiving it yourself. ⁸For I am always there with you, in remembrance of you.

The goal of the curriculum, regardless of the teacher you choose, is “Know thyself.” ²There is nothing else to seek. ³Everyone is looking for himself and for the power and glory he thinks he has lost. ⁴Whenever you are with anyone, you have another opportunity to find them. ⁵Your power and glory are in him because they are yours. ⁶The ego tries to find them in yourself alone, because it does not know where to look. ⁷The Holy Spirit teaches you that if you look only at yourself you cannot find yourself, because that is not what you are. ⁸Whenever you are with a brother, you are learning what you are because you are teaching what you are. ⁹He will respond either with pain or with joy, depending on which teacher you are following. ¹⁰He will be imprisoned or released according to your decision, and so will you. ¹¹Never forget your responsibility to him, because it is your responsibility to yourself. ¹²Give him his place in the Kingdom and you will have yours. Today, like every day, is an opportunity to heal our mind and remember our true Self. Whether or not we accept the opportunity depends upon whom we choose to accept as our guide. The ego always seeks to imprison us in an image of separation — a body, a personality, status or any other form of specialness. The ego always leads to illusions and denial of Love.

But we can choose the Holy Spirit to be our Guide. He will help us overlook the images of the world, the forms we ascribe to our brothers, to the Light of Love everywhere, in anyone. What we see in our brother tells us which guide we are following.

When we join with our brother in Love’s oneness, our true Self is our Guide. What we see in our brother teaches us what we are. That lesson returns us to our true Identity. We remember we are God’s Son, created by Love as Love and nothing else. Today is a wonderful opportunity to return to the truth.

Freedom from Conflict

I am one Self, united with my Creator.

²Serenity and perfect peace are mine, because I am one Self, completely whole, at one with all creation and with God.

Salvation comes from my one Self.

²From my one Self, Whose knowledge still remains within my mind, I see God’s perfect plan for my salvation perfectly fulfilled. (W-113)

In the oneness of our true Self there are no differences, nothing that can conflict with anything, for all is the same Love. Without conflict, we remain in perfect peace. This is our natural state. We can bring this state to our awareness when we are willing to forgive the wish for specialness.

We have not lost our true Self, but we have denied Reality and made a dream where peace of mind seems impossible. But in truth, only peace is possible. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us look past the dream to the Reality of the one Love in which we live. In that recognition, the world is saved from conflict.

The Practice That Leads Us Home

I will be still an instant and go home.

This world you seem to live in is not home to you. ²And somewhere in your mind you know that this is true.

We speak today for everyone who walks this world, for he is not at home. ²He goes uncertainly about in endless search, seeking in darkness what he cannot find; not recognizing what it is he seeks. ³A thousand homes he makes, yet none contents his restless mind. ⁴He does not understand he builds in vain. ⁵The home he seeks can not be made by him. ⁶There is no substitute for Heaven. ⁷All he ever made was hell.

When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then will you hear His Voice.

Take time today to lay aside your shield which profits nothing, and lay down the spear and sword you raised against an enemy without existence.

You have not lost your innocence. ²It is for this you yearn. ³This is your heart’s desire. ⁴This is the voice you hear, and this the call which cannot be denied. …⁸And now the way is open, and the journey has an end in sight at last. ⁹Be still an instant and go home with Him, and be at peace a while. The reason we seem to be living in a world of separation and bodies is because we value illusions over truth; we value specialness over the oneness of Love. The key to awakening to our Home in God’s Love is to forgive our wish for specialness. Our Home cannot be found in this dream, where Love’s oneness is denied. But there is a path that leads to our Home.

The practice of pausing in our mind to step back from our involvement in the world and step into God’s peace opens our mind to the healing that will take us Home. This stepping back can be done in a brief mental pause in the midst of our doing. It is also beneficial to set aside a period of quiet in which we rest in God’s peace.

When we set the intent to let Love lead the way, we will be helped throughout the day. We support that intent each time we pause for a moment to let the truth of Love shine in our mind. Even a brief pause helps us let go of valueless illusions and remember our Home in Heaven.

Fulfilling Our Function as God’s Son

³Let us turn to Him Who leads the way and makes our footsteps sure.

His is the only way to find the peace that God has given us. ²It is His way that everyone must travel in the end, because it is this ending God Himself appointed. ³In the dream of time it seems to be far off. ⁴And yet, in truth, it is already here; already serving us as gracious guidance in the way to go. ⁵Let us together follow in the way that truth points out to us. ⁶And let us be the leaders of our many brothers who are seeking for the way, but find it not.

And to this purpose let us dedicate our minds, directing all our thoughts to serve the function of salvation. ²Unto us the aim is given to forgive the world. ³It is the goal that God has given us. ⁴It is His ending to the dream we seek, and not our own. ⁵For all that we forgive we will not fail to recognize as part of God Himself. ⁶And thus His memory is given back, completely and complete. (A Course in Miracles, W-fl.in.1:3;2–3)

When we practice true forgiveness with the Holy Spirit’s help, we show the way to all our brothers that leads us Home to the Heaven of God’s Love. His Love is our only need. It is our Life. The dream in which we see ourselves as bodies, separate from all others, is dispelled as we let go of our mistaken beliefs.

The core belief is that we are separate, which could never be true. For we were created by Love, forever united with It. We ask for the Holy Spirit’s help to see, with Christ’s vision, the Love that is the truth of What we are. This is our only function as God’s Son.
