Just one and one-half miles from my home, there is a parking lot where I meet my running buddies. I drive this street nearly every day. A couple of days ago I was on my way to meet two of my running buddies. The sun was shining bright and the temperature was moderate. I was singing Neil Young’s “old man take a look at my life…” with the radio. Life was good and then when I was just about at the lot, out of the corner of my eye, a police car pulled out of its parking spot. Yup, busted! I pulled into the lot as usual as he pulled in behind me with his lights flashing and my running buddies standing there in their florescent yellow jackets with big grins on their faces. Busted again!

I have a planner
that is full of my plans.
Plans for this and plans for that.
I am fond of my planner.
It keeps me secure in the knowledge
That all is well in the future for me.

I don’t know if you ever experience this, but after faithfully practicing ACIM lessons, giving my willingness to Holy Spirit to look at everything that didn’t bring me peace, I suddenly went into a deep funk. Call it disillusionment, despondency, crashing. It felt horrible, lonely, scarey and disorienting to say the least. I went into a panic. What if all that I am learning is not the truth? What if God isn’t real? What am I to do?

I have had my share of trouble getting a grip on the “guilt” thing in A Course in Miracles. I am being clearly taught that:
• There is never a good reason to feel guilty.
• I feel guilty because I falsely believe I have separated from God.
• Only the ego believes in guilt; Holy Spirit knows I am totally innocent.

There is a devotional song I like, called Tapping by Rickie Beckwith. In part it says:
You are tapping on my heart. Tell me what is the plan. Tell me how to heal my mind. Tell me how to walk this land.
These words resonate deeply with me because I am aware of that tapping all the time. Holy Spirit is tapping in my Heart, tapping on my shoulder, on my head. He gently taps to get my attention. Sometimes I acknowledge His taps, sometimes not, but always the tapping is there. My desire for His Guidance grows stronger and stronger as I practice listening.

It has been clearly and methodically proven to me over the years that everything I see is a total creation of my mind. I have a world inside my head that I can choose to see as my truth, and be a slave to its whims and crazy circumstances or I can see the truth as shown me through ACIM. My study of quantum theory and other sciences, as well as energy methodologies have given me the understanding of the concept that there is nothing out there. ACIM has taken these studies to another level by offering further explanation about the nothingness that lies beyond energy.

This morning I was reading my workbook lesson, “My body is a wholly neutral thing.” (W-pII.294) I started thinking, we go through so much trouble taking care of our bodies, what we put on it, how we feed it, tend to it when it is sick. What if we had such a deep belief in our oneness with God that we never had to do any of those things? Now, I am not a proponent of walking around naked (although it would be nice if it was a society norm!), but can you imagine how much more time we would have if we didn’t have to do all this stuff? Think of how much more time we would have soaking in the Love of God, experiencing the joy that is our right, reveling in the pursuit of happiness… just relaxing. (We all seem to be so tired all the time!)

Charity (n.) the act of deciding since you are better than he, you can take pity on him and give him something of yours. (Especially if someone else is watching you.)
I hadn’t really thought too much about charity until participating in Pathways course 920 with Rev. Susan Lewis. As part of the lessons, we were directed to ACIM 2:V, where the concept of charity is presented in a much different light. In this section, I found the sentence, “Charity is a way of looking at another as if he had already gone far beyond his actual accomplishments in time.” Such a profound statement. I had never thought of charity that way. Receiving charity was to be avoided at all costs. In fact, haven’t we been conditioned by books, movies and most of society that “taking charity” is proof that the last part of one’s character has finally been compromised?

The whole aim of the Course is to teach us that we are mistaken about who we are. We are mistaken about the world, the laws of nature that seem to govern it, and we certainly don’t yet realize the singular purpose of the world.
We are not who we think we are. The world we appear to see is not real. We are not the helpless, fragile identity that is housed temporarily within a corruptible body. Nor are we dependents or victims of the laws of nature that appear, at times, to both support and threaten us.

Yesterday, I went to an all day workshop with Rev. Jennifer Hadley. It was a wonderful day of fellowship and learning. Rev. Hadley had us do an activity where we wrote all the things we judge ourselves for and then shared our list with another person. Without going into detail, what I learned from this valuable activity was that we all pretty much judge ourselves for the same things: not being worthy, not being loving enough, not letting go of judgments, not being as good or smart as others, etc. The real value of this activity was that I truly saw how we are all one, you are me and I am you. I also saw how I have been playing “small” — not living up to what I truly could be because I let these judgments stand in the way. I mean, I really saw it! It wasn’t just a little recognition, but a true “Ah ha.” Fear, of course, also plays a part. After all, if I live up to my real potential, what will people expect of me?

Question: I would love an ACIM-inspired interpretation of Alzheimer’s. I am living with and caring for a relative who has been diagnosed. I’ve gotten good support from a group but it doesn’t feel adequate. I am a long time Course student and would like help with a perspective on this ‘disease.’
Rev. Curtis Graf, M.D.: I am a retired Neurologist and a Course student. As you know any attempt to explain an illusion within an illusion is like trying to explain a dream while still dreaming, but I’ll try.

It has been three days since my ordination. I have been busy catching up with friends and family that wanted to congratulate me, setting up my website, filing and organizing.
As I was sorting through my filing I came across the sign up form for the ‘ACIM Study Group Leader Program’. I currently meet once a month with a friend over the phone to study ACIM, and we love this time together. I have also received a request from someone in another county that would be interested in joining a Book Study.

Now is the center of all that was:
all the experiences of disappointments,
joy and laughter; it is the
All of that was, seen and unseen.
Now holds the key stepping into
tomorrow, your next thought,
next action, and next choice.

When I moved to Florida a little over a year and a half ago, I moved into a low socioeconomic neighborhood, where it soon became apparent that alcoholism was prevalent. Although I know that this disease transcends all socioeconomic levels, it seemed to be higher here. I suspect that is the result of the depression associated with the unemployment and low incomes that exist here.
