My Encounter with My True Self

Twenty-one years ago my life changed. I met the best friend I’ve ever had, the Holy Spirit in ACIM.  When that inspired book came into my life, it felt as if the center of my being had been turned from the inside out. All my old beliefs were shattered and these new ideas felt so true. I new that I had come home. ACIM was my constant companion for one year. I would read it in every break I had at work, when I stopped at a red light, before and after going to bed, in fact, reading and studying ACIM was what I did most of 1986.

During that year I moved from Ponce, Puerto Rico, the city where I was born and raised, to San Juan, where I hardly knew anybody. The Course brought many new and wonderful friends into my life, one of them being Rev. Annie Arbona. Annie and I shared many wonderful spiritual experiences. Even though life took us in different directions, we have always kept in touch.

A year ago, because of my husband’s health, we moved to South Florida. Again, I hardly knew anyone. Even though ACIM had been my path ever since my first encounter, ego took over. I started asking the Holy Spirit to bring light into my life again and the right people so that I could be of service. I was sure He would, I just didn’t know how, or when. “Faith and belief and vision are the means by which the goal of holiness is reached. Through them the Holy Spirit leads you to the real world, and away from all illusions where your faith was laid. This is His direction; the only one He ever sees. And when you wander, He reminds you there is but one. His faith and His belief and vision are all for you.”  T-21:III:4:1-5 (Text p. 452)

In the darkest of days I received a call from Annie who now lives in South Carolina. She told me about Pathways of Light and how she was translating its courses into Spanish. We thought we were just chatting, but Holy Spirit had another intention. I immediately felt a wonderful energy coming from my heart and knew that this was the Holy Spirit’s answer. I have since been helping with the translation into Spanish and I started the Ministerial Counselor Training.
 
My life has changed.  I cannot put in words the energy of peace, joy and happiness that is back into my life. I am so grateful for ACIM, Annie, Robert and Mary Stoelting and Pathways of Light for this opportunity to be of service. I feel very deep within me that the Spanish translation of these courses, which are so simple yet so powerful, will be of tremendous spiritual growth to the Spanish speakers of the world. I have one advice to all of them: Fasten your seat belts; tremendous healing is coming your way. As the Course did for me, your lives will never be the same.

My True Identity

After I completed the Spiritual Awakening Group Course 1102 of the Ministerial Course Program, Holy Spirit instructed me to begin this meditation every morning after waking and every evening before bed:

Get in a comfortable position, (which is laying down for me).

Relax; breathe deeply, several times. Say in your mind,

My true identity is Love… 

My true identity is Love…

My true identity is Love… 

Feel the Love that you are… Let the Love that you are fill your whole mind… Let the Love that you are fill you whole Being…

Feel the Love that you are… Extend the Love you are into this space… Extend the Love you are in the place and everyone in the place…

Extend the Love you are into all the Earth… Extend the Love you are into all the Universe…

I feel so much peace and joy, that sometimes I want to stay in this meditation and never come out. Thank you Holy Spirit.

“Get Out of the Way…”

It was all started when I attended a workshop facilitated by Mary Stoelting of Pathways of Light. I have always told myself that I was not good at meditation. However, as soon as Mary started her guided meditation, I immediately went with it and heard a voice in my head say, “Get out of the way because I’m going to show you things that you have never dreamed of.” I placed my name on the mailing list and received my first copy of Miracle News several months later.
 
After reading Miracle News I became interested in learning more about Pathways of Light.  When I began the Ministerial Training Program, I was open but was unsure of the outcome. At that point I saw it as another opportunity to further my spiritual journey.

Five months later, I could say that I am receiving much more from these ministerial training courses than what I originally expected. Personally, it keeps on taking me to a level of personal relationship with the Holy Spirit that I have never experienced. My ability to trust keeps on expanding and with it I continue to experience a profound awareness of things that I never ever realized before. I don’t know where all this is taking me, but I know that I am willing to go wherever it takes me.

At the same time, this is impacting people who have been very close to me all my life, including three family members: My cousin and my niece and my nephew’s wife. When I initially contacted Pathways of Light, Robert Stoelting informed me that the courses could be conducted in Spanish and they put me in contact with Rev. Annie Arbonna. I also contacted two friends in addition to the family members and set up a ministerial study group.

We have all gotten much more than we anticipated. Working through the course exercises and the meditations is gradually allowing us to examine and heal aspects of the personality that were never confronted. The group discussions are deep, gentle, humorous and very forgiving. The facilitator is like the Holy Spirit, constantly reminding us of our innocence no matter what comes out.
 
Moreover, I started to apply what I’m learning with the Pathways program to a depression support group that I facilitate at my job. The results have been nothing short of amazing. For example, one of the participants reports that two serious things have happened to her physical health since she started doing the mediations. Her tremors due to her diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease have decreased remarkably to a point that is hardly noticeable. She also reports that her mental and emotional state have improved so much that her psychiatrist has decided to discontinue her use of Abillify, a medication prescribed for people experiencing symptoms associated with Schizophrenia.

The staff has noticed the transformation in her physical and emotional appearance.  She is more confident and has projected a more positive outlook on life.

Another participant also reports having experienced the most complete forgiveness with both her mother and her father while experiencing two different meditations. According to her, her experience was so vivid that she actually felt her mom touching her on the shoulder to remind her to take her medication. Forgiving her mom and dad has given her a sense of relief that she had never experienced before.
 
The message that I heard back in February about getting myself out the way so He can show me things that I had never dreamt of has become a reality and I truly know that much more is yet to come. I continue to be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to lead my life to where it needs to be.

Gentle Awakening

I’d been hearing about A Course In Miracles from my cousin for about four to five years now. Whenever I walked into one of those difficult “life lessons” (wonderful opportunities for growth and healing), she would help me explore different approaches or changes in perception that might help ease the tension. I often didn’t like when I heard:  “Nothing has a meaning but the meaning you give it,” “There’s no one out there but you and God,” or “This is just coming up for healing.” My least favorite of all was, “Do you want to be right or do you want peace?” I responded that I wanted peace but behaved like I wanted to be right. Besides, wasn’t my being right the path to peace? That’s what I had been trained to believe. Nonetheless, those words resonated somewhere deep inside me.

Even if I resented it and wasn’t completely ready to do what needed to be done, I knew that the task at hand was that I needed to change the way I was viewing my life circumstances.
 
In July, 2007, I attended the “Art of Surrender” weekend workshop led by Sandy Levey Lunden in New York. Through that process I was able to get in touch with my resistance to fully submitting to God’s Will. I was still trying to prove that my will, no matter how ill directed, was better than God’s. At that time, life was pretty good but I wanted even more joy and peace.

I was finally able to open up to God’s Will without being in a state of crisis and became willing to invite Holy Spirit’s help me look at my life and help me discover my purpose.

Within a week or two, as can only be gently orchestrated by the Holy Spirit, my dear cousin read about the Ordained Ministerial Counselor Correspondence Course offered by Pathways of Light and suggested that we register for it. She even offered to pay for it. I immediately said yes without knowing what I was signing up for but knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that I was being guided.
 
This decision resulted in a three-part gift.  The first part was the actual course material. I was very excited when I received the five courses for step one, “Getting to Know and Trusting the Real You.” I thought, “This is exactly what I needed.”

The second part was finding out that not only were we going to be part of a group that included other family members and friends but that it would be facilitated in Spanish. The third part of the gift has been our bi-lingual facilitator, Rev. Annie Arbona. Annie was sent to us as a mighty companion in this journey. Her love, kindness, support and wisdom have been indispensable to our collective commitment, growth and healing.
 
We are approaching the last part of the first step and so far, the course work is the most gentle and loving yet deep process I have ever experienced in my healing journey. A strong foundation of non-judgment has facilitated the process of observing my ego thoughts and giving them to the Holy Spirit for healing.

Working with Pathways’ materials has deepened my understanding, appreciation and love of A Course in Miracles. Through practical exercises and healing meditations I have become aware of how my limiting ego thought patterns and ego identity were making it difficult for me to see my true Self and remember that Love is my only true Identity.

The meditations have helped me to connect with and feel God’s Love and Peace.  Before I started this work, I believed finding my true purpose was somehow related to employment and compensation. I have come to know that my only True purpose is to awaken! The single most miraculous gift that I have gained as a result of the guided meditations is the opening of that ever important line of communication with Holy Spirit and recognizing the clear but loving essence of that communication.
     
I am completely committed and engaged in the process of gentle awakening. I am eternally grateful for ACIM, for the training course work prepared by Pathways, Annie our facilitator, our group members and for Holy Spirit’s gentle plan to bring all these elements together to help us remember the Truth of Who we are.
