A Healing Prayer for Us

I want to give everything to God and restore awareness of the truth to my mind. No longer do I wish to engage my mind in pointless defense. Let me let go of all fear, recognizing that all God created is now and forever what He created It to be.

The Will of God does not change. The truth is eternal and all that exists. I give the future to God and trust in the truth, knowing that in His eternal perfection, nothing needs to be done. All things are complete and whole and at peace as one fully unified Creation for all eternity. There is nothing else. Fear has no purpose, for there are no plans to make, nor defense necessary at all. All I need do is forgive this false thought to restore my awareness of the Presence of Love.

God help me heal my mind. All I want is to be with You. I want to see You and hear You and know You because I only want to know the truth. There is nothing else I would hold in my mind. Only You do I embrace. You alone are true. You are my Love, and I am Yours. And so it is, and so we say amen.

Pathways of Light Miracles News is published quarterly in print and online to provide a forum for Pathways of Light ministers to share their process of allowing the Holy Spirit to heal their minds. As we read and share these miracle stories with each other, we are inspired and we inspire each other to accelerate our return Home to Love, peace and happiness.

The Promise of the Course

As the years seem to go by, my study of ACIM only intensifies. I feel grateful to have A Course in Miracles to focus me on Holy Spirit’s Guidance as I navigate through this human experience.

The Course captured my heart many years ago and I have never let go of it. The Course has convinced me that Holy Spirit has got my back no matter what seems to be going on in my life. I have had the experience of being carried by Spirit during the most difficult times.

As this trust continues to build in my consciousness, I find myself letting go of the outcomes I think I most desire in my life. I try more and more to let go and let God. I can see now that I don’t know my own best interests. But I trust He does.

This trust in God I feel growing in me continuously. My greatest ambition is to be used by Holy Spirit as one of God’s teachers. He knows the way that is best for me right now.

I do not know what form this will take. What kind of minister will I be in the years to come? I am not sure what this will look like as it evolves but I trust that it will be perfect. It may not look perfect through my eyes but that is where the trust comes in.

All people experience difficult times in their lives. Some lives appear to be harder or less fortunate than others. As the world sees it, there are winners and losers of all types and everyone is different. But the body’s eyes show us only illusion. We are not to believe what we see.

The Course teaches us that we are all the same. There can be no winners and losers in Eternity and God only sees the Oneness that we all are in truth. We are being asked to view each other in this way. No one can lose for another to gain. As each of us thrives, we all thrive. No one gets left behind.

Some of the greatest sadness we experience comes from a loved one being sick or dying. I remember how my mom, Phyllis, suffered from dementia. She became terrified and the disease only got worse until she finally left her body. I was scared and handed the frightening circumstances to my Higher Power, the Holy Spirit. I asked Him to let me see this differently.

When my mom passed, I could feel that she was released from the prison of her mental torture. Her Spirit became very much alive in me. There is no death. Spirit is always eternal. I can feel my mom with me. It is an infusion of love. This love guides me if I just let it.

My son, Kevin, spent the last seven years of his young life as a heroin addict. As his father, I was obsessed with healing him. There were many terrible days and nights where I prayed for help to heal him of this insidious addiction. I was so scared by what my eyes were showing me. I asked Holy Spirit to help me see this differently.

The circumstances of his final relapse and subsequent overdose death were horrifying. He left behind a family and friends that loved him deeply. His daughter, Olivia, was only 4 months old.

I was able to feel Kevin’s spirit soon after his transition. Like his grandmother, Phyllis, his spirit reached into my heart and let me know he was there. Only deep love is there now. He is free from the incessant cravings for the drug. Free.

My mom and son are two angels to whom I can turn. They are connected to Holy Spirit and therefore connected directly to me. We are clearly being taught that Holy Spirit is in us and is God’s Voice to us.

There is enormous strength to be gained through the teachings of the Course. The lessons I have learned are about the power of forgiveness. I have been allowed to experience an influx of love from so many people. I feel healed from the past mistakes. Relationships that were bitter are now kind and gentle. I want to help to heal others through Spirit’s Guidance.

I place my future into the Hands of God. I want to be open to the joy and love of living. I look forward to how He will use me. There are so many possibilities and I must let go of the outcome. Trusting in Spirit is where I want to keep my focus.

Together, with Holy Spirit and angels like my mom and son, I fully expect to continue to be guided. I am open to whatever may come my way. I want to experience the love I both give and receive.

This is the promise of the Course. And this is no small gift.

Getting Out of My Head

“Illusion recognized must disappear. Accept not suffering, and you remove the thought of suffering.” (W-pI.187.7:1-2)

The next part of this lesson is focused on the idea of suffering. The fact is that all events are neutral until we impose our thoughts on them and thus give them meaning. Nothing that happens here is innately sacrificial and seems so only because we insist upon it. I am not saying that it is easy to see the neutrality of certain events, but how we choose to see it does not in any way change the facts. And the good news is that if we decide upon suffering then we can use that same power to change our mind about it.

What makes this hard is the narrative we tell ourselves. This narrative comes from the ego and the ego always wants fear and guilt. It always wants drama. It is uninterested in peace so it is not going to give us a narrative that will lead to peace. We have to learn to discern the ego thoughts and to reject them if we want to be at peace and if we want to stop suffering.

We can do this in a couple of ways. The first thing we have to do is to become aware of when the ego thoughts of sacrifice enter our minds so that we can do something with them. What I did was to take these thoughts and their effects (the feelings and emotions) to the Holy Spirit. I would let the feelings come up, the fear and guilt, the rage, the hatred, the blame, all of it. I would feel it completely, recognize that I was sick of it and ready to be free and then I would give it to the Holy Spirit.

After a lot of the thoughts in my mind were healed, or when I noticed that I had gone from looking and feeling all of this for the purpose of healing to just wallowing in it, I changed my tactics. I learned to shift my attention. We know how to do this. We do it all the time. I am interested in getting some work done in my house and then I get the thought that I could go to the store and suddenly I have no interest in housework. I shifted my attention from housework to shopping.

I use this same ability to shift my attention from the thoughts in my head to something that is actually happening. Let’s face it, these meaningless thoughts, the constant chatter is most likely about something that already happened or something that could happen. They keep us from the reality of the moment and so we never actually live the life we came here to live. I have discovered that I can change that and at the same time, I can stop suffering. I don’t sacrifice anything in doing so.

Here is one way I have learned to accomplish that shift in thinking. I will start paying attention to the sounds around me, and to the sensations on or in the body. This takes me out of my head. The chatter in my mind will take me to an imagined world of pain and suffering. Getting out of my head is a good way of stopping the endless cycle of thoughts. Another way of doing this is to place my attention on a better thought.

I might start thinking about how there is nothing to fear. A good fifteen seconds of focus on that thought lifts me to a higher level and at the same time, it begins to rewire my brain which is good news as my brain has a bad habit of falling into fear. An additional benefit of this process is that it helps me to identify with the Self rather than the self. The Self is calm and peaceful. It is curious and accepting of whatever arises. On the other hand, the self is frantically judging and trying to control and this is suffering.

The thing is, we cannot actually sacrifice. Sacrifice is a lie. The only place we can sacrifice is in the ego mind, the world of imagination, not reality. It is a decision we make and then quickly decide to forget we made it and we pretend that life is the problem, the cause of the suffering and that we are helpless before our suffering. Without those thoughts, the idea of suffering would not exist because it doesn’t, in reality, exist.

What is in my mind is also in the mind of the sleeping Son, the mind we all share. I don’t want to do anything to reinforce sacrifice and suffering. This is not what I want to receive, so I must not give it.
