Lately, people are sharing their concerns about money with me. Some are expressing future concerns — feeling they have enough money to take care of themselves now, but worrying whether they will have enough down the road. Others are feeling tired because earning the money they do have is hard work, so hard that their bodies ache. Then there are those feeling they do not have enough money right now — not enough to pay for the offices they rent to earn their livelihood.
I relate to all of these folks. I am wondering lately about how hard my husband and I work — for my husband, it’s physical and his body hurts. For me, it’s mental and sometimes fatigue sets in from all the multi-tasking and juggling.
We do not live extravagantly nor do we have debt from irresponsible spending. But we work hard, often really hard, just to provide ourselves with healthy food, keep our older cars on the road, feed our animals, and pay our modest mortgage. Then, if there is a little left over, we treat ourselves to a local happy hour. Our life is that basic.
I do not know how to reconcile my feelings about how hard we work with a life of peace and ease. Are we supposed to work this hard? Is that how God set it up? Or, can I see this differently?
I bring these questions to Holy Spirit —praying. (My praying is actually listening for answers.) Holding this prayer in my heart for several days, Holy Spirit speaks to me about my perceptions of lack, reminding me that, “A sense of separation from God is the only lack you really need correct.” (T-1.VI.2:1) Holy Spirit leads me in seeing how I am choosing to fragment myself into levels with different needs and creating conflict within myself. (T-1.VI.2:3)
I admit to Holy Spirit that some of the work I do, I do not enjoy, that I do it because we “need” the money. I admit that the bliss-work is when I am doing spiritual counseling, officiating ceremonies, even writing this article right now! I admit that I am not letting go of the fatiguing work because I want the bliss-work to be financially supporting; that I want the flow of support to come first and then I will let go.
In the five years since I am living in the Santa Fe foothills, this is the first year that water is flowing, for weeks now, in the arroyos around our house. Hiking with my dog Bella, we run beside the water. We splash in the water, soak ourselves in it and enjoy its soothing sounds. We stop at the water and I sit on a tree, one down and stretched over the water, and I listen to Holy Spirit tell me over and over again,
You need to learn how to Let-Go
and Receive.
You need to learn how to Let-Go
and Receive.
You need to learn how to Let-Go
and Receive.
“I know Holy Spirit,” I sigh, the sun twinkling with the stream beneath me.
The lack I am perceiving is not really about money or sustenance. No, the core issue is co-dependent self-reliance — ‘I must be in charge of earning money because it’s all on me. I am alone in providing for my family. I cannot let go because without my control there will be no sustenance to receive.’ In truth, I am running myself ragged trying to do it all. In this separated state of lack, I feel scared, fatigued, and isolated.
Holy Spirit tells me in A Course in Miracles that, “The real purpose of this world is to use it to correct your unbelief. You can never control the effects of fear yourself, because you made fear, and you believe in what you have made.” (T-1.VI.4:1-2)
Yet, in Truth, “All aspects of fear are untrue because they do not exist at the creative level, and therefore do not exist at all. To whatever extent you are willing to submit your beliefs to this test, to that extent are your perceptions corrected. In sorting out the false from the true, the miracle proceeds along these lines:
“Perfect love casts out fear.
If fear exists,
Then there is not perfect love.
But:
Only perfect love exists.
If there is fear,
It produces a state that does not exist.
Believe this and you will be free. Only God can establish this solution, and this faith is His gift.” (T-1.VI.5:1-10)
My praying with this will continue. I am opening my heart, my mind, and my soul to Holy Spirit’s lead in unraveling every tangled thread of co-dependency in me. I will be reminding myself daily that “unified needs lead to unified action” resolving all conflict. (T-1.VI.2:5)
God is offering me freedom from dis-ease infested core beliefs, calling me to let go of codependency and its false shield, to receive an even deeper knowing of what God is. My response is, ‘I am willing to learn how to Let-Go and Receive.’

“When my check comes, I’ll finally get my affairs straightened out — then I’ll be happy.
“If she forgives me, and gives me another chance — then for sure I’ll be happy.
“All I need is for it not to rain next Tuesday, then the event will go well — and I’ll be happy.
“Is this day of hell ever going to end? At least after work I’ll be able to go home and relax — then I’ll be happy.”
Waiting, waiting, waiting! Does the ego have a better trick? Practically every conversation between Course students will reinforce the concept that, “the only time that exists is right now.” Then, while this concept is being discussed, the students will leave reality and start talking about “waiting,” waiting for something to happen. Waiting to finish the ACIM lessons, waiting for the next workshop to begin, waiting for a future occurrence when at long last they’ll be happy. Waiting for the impossible to become possible.
How can I bring that concept into an actual experience?
Can you imagine what it means to have no cares, no worries, no anxieties, but merely to be perfectly calm and quiet all the time? Yet that is what time is FOR; to learn just that and nothing more. God’s Teacher cannot be satisfied with His teaching until it constitutes ALL your learning. He has not fulfilled His teaching function until you have become such a consistent learner that you learn ONLY of Him. When this has happened, you will no longer need a teacher or time in which to learn.
One source of perceived discouragement from which you suffer is your belief that this takes time, and that the results of the Holy Spirit’s teaching are far in the future. This is not so. For the Holy Spirit uses time in His Own way, and is not bound by it. And all the waste that time seems to bring with it is due but to your identification with the ego, which uses time to support its belief in destruction.
The ego, like the Holy Spirit, uses time to convince you of the inevitability of the goal and end of teaching. To the ego the goal is death, which IS its end. But to the Holy Spirit the goal is life, which HAS no end. ACIM T-15.I.paragraphs 1-2.
The harder we try to “not” wait, the more it seems that at some future point in time, and with much practice, we will succeed in finally “getting” this ACIM thing. Just from writing this article, we see again that we really believe we are here, in bodies, “in time.” Then we “come to believe” that our ideas about time are wrong (that this “takes time” a “looooong time”).
Ego is a “waiter” and a time “waster.” When we become willing to accept Holy Spirit’s use of time, our perception changes. Holy Spirit doesn’t “waste” anything. Holy Spirit doesn’t waste any upset, any situation, any concern, but Helps us see that we have “no cares, no worries, no anxieties,” etc., when we are “willing to learn only of Him.” Then it’s game over, time over!

As a container — the physical ecosystem fully supports all life within it, oxygen and water all regenerative and perfectly supportive to our lives.
The ecosystem of God’s mind works the same. We exist within this beautifully pure mind — an ecosystem of Love.
Our minds, created in the image and likeness of God’s is an ecosystem that supports our free will and choices. For the unhealed mind, it is a prison, cause and effect repeating throughout time. Painfully, we continue in this circular fashion until we begin to wake up and take hold of our conscious awareness.
For the healed mind, this ecosystem is heaven, abundant, unlimited Love, Peace and Joy, in the realization that we are fully supported by God at all times. Time having disappeared becomes irrelevant to us as our soul soars with the angels forever and ever.
Our work here is to see beyond the ecosystem that we have created and remember the one in which we really reside.

We say, “I love you,” all the time. I love my children, I love my spouse, I love my friends. We feel like we have lots of love to go around. And for the most part, I think we are sincere about that, but are we? What is love really?
There are different kinds of love, at least on the earth plane. The love we have for our siblings is different than the love we have for our friends. The love we have for our spouses or lover is completely different than the love we have for our children or our parents etc. We compare our love. We feel people have to prove love. We sometimes feel a shortage of love. Well is this really love?
I think we can be sure that if what we are calling love has any demands, it isn’t real Love. It is ego representation. I have seen people spend atrocious amounts of money on someone out of what they call love.
I know it is so hard to discern the difference when we feel so strongly about the subject, whom we are devoting all of our attention on. But if you realize that real Love is not a verb but a state of being, it feels a little easier to recognize. You see when we put demands on Love we are adding fear to the equation. Because we think that if our demands are not met, we experience a lack of Love. Just what the ego revels in.
In my healing process, I recently had to search my own heart about this. In my social circle someone spends a lot of money on someone I love. They go to Europe and many places of entertainment, they buy them expensive gifts. Anything they wish to have is granted to them. I was so upset and I thought how I resented them because I thought it wasn’t fair or right. I thought to myself that they are doing all of this for themselves for their own self-gratification and not out of love for this person. I felt a lack of love. I felt like I wasn’t enough, and totally unloved.
Then I took it to Holy Spirit; with guidance I realized that my belief system was different than theirs and my judgement was showing me where I needed to heal.
I forgot that we are Love. That is what our true Nature is so there is no lack of Love. I realized that I was looking to the ego for justification. And it was so easy to fall into the trap of looking in the wrong place for guidance. It’s true I may be right about their motives. But even if that is the truth, judging them is not helpful.
Whenever we take an ego stance, we will be disappointed in the outcome. Holy Spirit made me aware of the fact that Love doesn’t have a price tag. There is no shortage of Love. It is the air we breathe, and it is our inheritance.
We have no control over the choices others make. We can see them in their Wholeness and remember for them who they really are. Love makes no judgment, no demands. It just is.
Now that I have come to the truth I am free to share the Love that we are freely. It is easier to Love without all the complications the ego would have imposed. I am so thankful for my healing.
