Choose Quiet Listening to Truth

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them.” (A Course in Miracles W-pI.139.9)

The Voice of Truth is ever present in our minds. It is always our choice whether or not to listen to this Voice. This Voice will always speak to us of reality that is the complete opposite of everything we perceive through the body’s eyes. When we choose to follow the ego thought system, conflict and uncertainty is inevitable. But the Voice for Truth brings certainty because it always speaks of changeless Reality. There can be no doubt in what never changes.

When we choose to listen to the Voice of Truth, we choose the way to perfect happiness because it is the way of Love. Our practice today is to choose quiet listening to the Voice that will undo all uncertainty, all guilt and fear so that we can recognize the changeless, loving Self we are.

Accepting the Presence of Our One Self

To teach is to demonstrate. There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time. From your demonstration others learn, and so do you.…

The curriculum you set up is therefore determined exclusively by what you think you are, and what you believe the relationship of others is to you. …It is the teaching underlying what you say that teaches you. Teaching but reinforces what you believe about yourself. …the self you think is real is what you teach. (A Course in Miracles M-Intro.2:1-3;3:1,7,10)

When we let the Holy Spirit teach through us, we learn that we and all our brothers are one Self, the unified Son of God. This is a happy lesson indeed, for it brings us the joy that comes with the loving presence of our one Self. Through forgiveness the curriculum peels away the layers of guilt so that the eternal presence of Love is revealed. This is a lesson we really want to learn.

Today our practice is to focus on welcoming Holy Spirit’s happy lessons so that we can see and learn of our Self through all our brothers.

God’s Strength Is Ours

God is our strength. There is no strength but His. Our practice today is to hold this thought front and center in our awareness.

This thought brings peace because it reminds us that there is nothing that can threaten us or harm us in any way. We share God’s strength. There is no other strength. This thought brings certainty. As we remember that we share all of God’s strength, there is no need to plan for our protection or our happiness. We can rest in the certainty that we are being carried in perfect Love and joy.

Allowing Time to Listen

Let us be still an instant, and forget all things we ever learned, all thoughts we had, and every preconception that we hold of what things mean and what their purpose is. Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world is for. We do not know. Let every image held of everyone be loosened from our minds and be swept away.

Be innocent of judgment, unaware of any thoughts of evil or of good that ever crossed your mind of anyone. Now do you know him not. But you are free to learn of him, and learn of him anew. Now is he born again to you, and you are born again to him, without the past that sentenced him to die, and you with him. Now is he free to live as you are free, because an ancient learning passed away, and left a place for truth to be reborn. (A Course in Miracles T-31.I.12-13)

Our practice for today is to strengthen the habit of stepping aside from our daily routines and taking frequent timeouts for quiet listening. We want to go Home. We want to be of service to the undoing of the dream. The way it works best is to take frequent timeouts to listen to Holy Spirit’s inspiration. The Holy Spirit knows how to save time. It knows the quickest route Home. Our job is to listen to our inner Teacher frequently today. Our job is to let our thoughts be transformed by the Light of truth throughout the day. We will practice stepping back and allowing time to listen for Him to lead the way.

Today Is a Day of Gratitude

Our gratitude will pave the way to Him, and shorten our learning time by more than you could ever dream of. Gratitude goes hand in hand with love, and where one is the other must be found. For gratitude is but an aspect of the Love which is the Source of all creation. God gives thanks to you, His Son, for being what you are; His Own completion and the Source of love, along with Him. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.195.10:1-4)

Whenever we forgive, a sense of gratitude always comes with it. This is because we have removed a barrier to the awareness of Love’s presence. And Love and gratitude always come together. To know that we are loved, we simply need to forgive the thoughts that deny Love’s presence.

Today our practice is to bring all thoughts of comparison, all thoughts that disturb our peace of mind to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His gentle correction. This correction will always show us the Love behind the mistaken image that hides the Light of God. This practice today is a journey in gratitude.

Appreciation of Our Brothers

Only appreciation is an appropriate response to your brother. Gratitude is due him for both his loving thoughts and his appeals for help, for both are capable of bringing love into your awareness if you perceive them truly. …Do not attempt to “help” a brother in your way, for you cannot help yourself. But hear his call for the Help of God, and you will recognize your own need for the Father.” (A Course in Miracles T-12.6:1-2,10-11)

When we perceive a brother truly, we see that he is Love. We see that we are continuous with the Father. When we see a brother through the eyes of the ego, we see differences and separation. The ego’s interpretation always seeks to separate and divide. It always looks for conflict.

Our opportunity for today is to notice which guide we have chosen for interpretation. Lack of peace always comes when we choose the ego as our guide. But when we choose the Holy Spirit as our Guide, we feel only appreciation for the Love our brother is. Holy Spirit shows us the Light of Love that lies beyond the stories. We are grateful for Holy Spirit’s loving Help.

We Would Make No Decisions on Our Own

Peace abides in every mind that quietly accepts the plan God set for its Atonement, relinquishing its own. You know not of salvation, for you do not understand it. Make no decisions about what it is or where it lies, but ask the Holy Spirit everything, and leave all decisions to His gentle counsel.

…Forget Him not and He will make every decision for you, for your salvation and the peace of God in you. (A Course in Miracles T-14.12:4-6;14:7)

It is impossible to know real Love in this dream world of separation because it is the denial of the oneness of Love. That is why relying on our own ideas of where to find Love will always fail. The good news is that we always have the Holy Spirit in our minds Who does know what Love is and how to guide us back to It. This is why it is essential to have the habit of making no decisions on our own and being willing to let the Holy Spirit decide all things on our behalf. There is no other way to be truly happy.

Our practice today is to welcome the Holy Spirit’s kind and gentle guidance to lead us along the way that returns us to full awareness that we are Love and nothing else. This is all we want. This is everything He can give. With this practice it will indeed be a happy day.
