I’m Willing…

Holy Spirit, I come to You with open hands and a willing heart. Help me to lay down the interferences I have made that put a veil between my awareness and the Light of truth. Help me to see the Light of Love in all things. Help me to lay down my ideas about how anything should be. Those ideas can only be made from memories of a past that is not here. I am willing to let them go. I know that my will is truly Your Will, the Will we share with God. I will there be Light.

Holy Spirit, I am willing to hand over all my concerns and worries to you. I am willing to be as a little child and be led gently down your quiet path to peace. This is my practice for today.

Forgiveness Makes Way for Light

Grievances hide the Light of the world in me. Through practicing A Course in Miracles, I have learned to more quickly recognize when I have a grievance I’m holding towards someone. But I have observed that sometimes I get caught up in a grievance that does not seem to be directed toward a known person, situation or thing.

It manifests as a feeling of edginess or defensiveness. It is as though this grievance is on the lookout for something to direct its guilt upon. Let someone make a “wrong” move and they quickly become the target for projection. I believe this “floating grievance” is really just a reflection of the underlying ego grievance against God, looking for a target to project the guilt upon. This is why the practice of taking every thought that is less than peaceful to the Holy Spirit for His loving correction is essential to awakening.

We have cleverly hidden the guilt that comes with belief in separation under many layers in our unconscious mind. Yet it will inevitably come to the surface. When it rises to the surface, it becomes a gift because it brings to our attention the need for forgiveness. Today I will be mindful of my level of peace and bring any disturbance to be transformed in the Holy Spirit’s healing Light.

Today it is my job to follow and not make decisions on my own. Today is my opportunity to open to Holy Spirit’s guidance and allow the Holy Spirit to purify the ego thoughts that come up for healing. This is the process of forgiveness that frees me from the chains of the ego thought system. Forgiveness is my only function here. And I am thankful that it is so.

My Safety Is in Defenselessness

Your practicing will now begin to take the earnestness of love, to help you keep your mind from wandering from its intent. Be not afraid nor timid. There can be no doubt that you will reach your final goal. The ministers of God can never fail, because the love and strength and peace that shine from them to all their brothers come from Him. These are His gifts to you. Defenselessness is all you need to give Him in return. You lay aside but what was never real, to look on Christ and see His sinlessness. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.153.20)

Today my practice for today is to focus on accepting the constancy of Love and strength and peace that come from our one true Self — the Holy Spirit. My job is to be willing to step back from the dream and accept the gift consistently through the day. The Holy Spirit does the rest. The gift of truth is everything and shows me that the dream of separation is really nothing. There is nothing to fear as I am willing to step back and accept the Light of Love’s oneness all through the day.

A sense of vulnerability and a need to protect myself is a sure sign that I am believing in a false image of what I am. The Self that God created is changeless and shares His strength. No protection is needed because there is no strength but His.

Today I will practice being mindful of when I feel a need for protection and offer that thought to the Holy Spirit. With His help I will see that the need is based on a false idea and I will let it go. This is how I return to the joy of Heaven.

What Do I Want to See Today?

If I want to see my brother truly, I need to see him with Christ’s vision. I cannot do this on my own. In fact, if I believe I am on my own, Christ’s vision is blocked.

Today I ask for Holy Spirit’s help to see with the vision of Love. This is how I will see my brother truly, for he is Love and nothing else, as am I. With Holy Spirit’s help, I can let go of perceiving myself as separate. I can feel the strength of Love in my heart. The veil of body images fades as my inward vision, guided by the Holy Spirit, shows me Love and nothing else. It is through this practice that I will learn that the truth in me is Love and nothing else. This is my release.

What do I want to see today? Do I want to see through the eyes of Love or the eyes of ego? If I see differences, I am seeing through the eyes of the ego, for only in separation’s thought system could differences be seen. Today my practice is to observe when I am seeing differences and immediately hand over this perception to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit sees past all illusions of differences to the one pure Love that is always truly there. This is my practice for today.

The Blessing of Vigilance

The habit of looking to the past as a guide for what to do and how to prepare for the future is very strong. It is the mechanism that keeps me tied to the ego thought system.

It takes consistent vigilance to become aware of this thinking and turn it over to the Holy Spirit with a willingness to let Him be my Guide in each moment. The habit is so strong that it is easy to go for extended periods following the old pattern without recognizing what I am doing.

Yet vigilance does work. Those periods of being caught up in the old way of thinking are interrupted more frequently now, thanks to the practice of vigilance. As a result I am more peaceful, less judgmental, and consequently happier.

Today I dedicate to continued vigilance to interrupt the old pattern, step back, move into a state of peace and open my mind to Holy Spirit’s inspiration.

My vigilance for today is to practice stepping back with a willingness to be led. As I am willing to let go of control and stick to my role of following by handing over the reins to the Holy Spirit, I can relax. I need not make any decisions on my own today. And for this I give thanks.

Trust in God’s Strength

“The presence of fear is a sure sign that you are trusting in your own strength.” (ACIM W-pI.48.3:1)

If I am not perfectly at peace, fear has entered my mind and therefore I must be trusting in my own strength. God’s Will for me is perfect peace. If I experience anything less than that, I am denying God’s Will.

“Trusting in my own strength” is another way of saying that I am identifying with the ego as what I am. If I believe I am separate from God, I must be trusting in my own strength because I no longer have God’s strength available to me. I need only accept God’s gift of Himself to return to perfect peace.

Forgiveness is the means to accept His gift. This means letting go of all I think the world is. Today my prayer is to walk with Love and see with Love. This can be done only in the present instant in which the past has been let go. This is my practice today.

God is the strength in which I trust. I will give time today to sink down below the ego’s chatter to the place of perfect peace. Here I will receive everything I need. Here is the answer to every perceived problem.

I Will There Be Light

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.73.5:1-4)

Once again I am willing to remember that the world I experience is a reflection of which guide and I choosing in my mind. I am willing to remember that nothing leaves the mind. There is no outside. Ideas leave not their source.

When I am willing to practice allowing the Holy Spirit to lift the veil of the ego thought system, I look upon a world of Light. Today I am willing to practice reinforcing this willingness to join with Holy Spirit in seeing past the ego’s thought system of separate bodies to the Light that is eternally there. This practice brings me peace. This practice brings me happiness. I will there be Light.

This lesson reminds me that, if I want to be happy, I need only accept that I share God’s Will for me — perfect happiness. The ego cannot oppose this will, but if I believe in the ego thought system, I become unaware of my will. Very simply, awareness of my will is restored to me through forgiveness or letting go of the false idea of separation. Separation is simply an idle wish that could never be true. I remain Love as Love created me.

I ask Holy Spirit’s help today to recognize mistaken perceptions of separation and to receive His loving correction. This is how I welcome happiness.
