Prayer of Gratitude

Beloved Heavenly Father, Thank you for all of the blessings in my life. Thank you for sending me Your Holy Spirit that teaches me to love and forgive myself daily for the mistakes that I think I’ve made, and to provide me with loving guidance. Thank you for healing my mind through Your gentle love and kindness, and for using me as a vessel to expand that Love.

Mighty I Am Presence, Source of all Peace and Truth; I am truly grateful for the holy relationships in my life, and for the opportunities to learn understanding and forgiveness through them. I am also grateful for the holy encounters that I come in contact with each day that teach me about seeing Your Love and Goodness in others, thus seeing it in myself.

Blessed Creator, help me to deeply appreciate the lessons I experience as a part of Spirit’s curriculum for my continued growth. Help me to have a greater commitment to remembering my Oneness with You and all those You send to me for our equal learning and teaching. Help me to honestly appreciate that You have placed the solution right within each perceived problem, and that my “problems” are already solved!

Divine Power of Love, I’m so glad that You are always present in my life and to know that Your Kingdom is within me. I’m glad that I can trust that Your ways are always right, and that what is impossible for me, is possible for You! I’m glad that You always have my best interest at Heart and that no matter what I think or do in this illusion, You will always Love me.

Thank you Almighty Father for Your Peace, Your Love and Your Light. Thank You for the joy and contentment that knowing You brings. Thank You for being my best Friend and Companion. Thank You for Your presence morning, noon and night, through thick and thin, rain or shine, forever!

Learning to Hear Holy Spirit’s Voice

When I ask for wisdom, guidance and clarity, Holy Spirit comes to me in different forms. Sometimes it is through another’s words or actions; often it is many people carrying the same message. Then at those unhurried, uncluttered thinking and ‘doing’ moments, I hear a quiet Voice penetrating my thoughts with wisdom. A sense of peace fills my heart center, spilling over into my entire body like a fountain of cascading warm water. While in prayer I have also felt the arms of Jesus fold around me. The “light bulb” moments are the most exhilarating and may occur at any given moment. The clarity is so brilliant with wisdom, followed with a Voice implanting a “knowing” of His words deep in the core of my heart. At these moments I laugh to myself, for the answer was so simple.

The most treasured of all moments happened the fall of 2003. I called out to God for help while walking through the valley of the shadow of death. My granddaughter had been given a few short months to live in this world. Her fight with leukemia was coming to a close. My heart broke in two; I kicked and screamed, “No, no, no, not this precious gifted child! She is only 6!” After my temper tantrum, I quieted down. In prayer I asked for direction from the core of my soul, my heart was bleeding from the pain. “Please,” I begged, “Don’t take this child!” The words I heard were loud, yet soft and tender in my head. “All will be well my child. She is in good hands.”

The following months as I continued to lift her up to God, I believed she would live. During the holidays she was a vibrant, laughing 6-year old who only needed to rest more often. A few short days after Christmas she began to fade and passed away on January 4th, 2004. The Voice of the Holy Spirit was solid and strong, gentle and comforting, guiding me through her passing.

Holy Spirit’s Voice comes in many forms, depending on how you need it and in the manner you will hear. It takes sitting in quiet, bringing in words of sincere thanks for all you have, and then be still in your heart. Holy Spirit comes when you are ready to listen.

As you learn to recognize this beautiful Voice, ask, “Is this my ego talking or Holy Spirit?” For me I know by the deepening of the warmth in my heart center. Ego could never simulate the warmth of God’s Love.

Trial and Correction

Do you know anyone that does not make mistakes? I sure don’t. In fact, Russell Baker, a multiple Pulitzer Prize winner and author of the nationally syndicated “Observer” column for the New York Times from 1962 to 1998, admitted to making the average number of mistakes, “...maybe 150 or so on a busy day.”  What a relief to know I am not the only one!

When I reflect on the world around me, I can see mistakes happening all the time. In business, science, sports, military, law, convictions, identity — well, the list seems endless. There are even philosophies to help me cope with my own, and others, mistakes. Murphy’s Law and Freudian slips can help me laugh out loud or look for hidden meanings. What does it all mean? 

Well, it depends now doesn’t it? Is the mistake little or HUGE. Sometimes it may appear to us as if some mistakes are bigger than others. I can choose to judge my mistakes as bad, or the person that is responsible as guilty. Often it is myself — but if I can project it onto someone else — this is one of the ego’s favorite games. The seriousness can grab a hold of the Good in my awareness and squash it. As a result, I feel guilty and fearful in response to my thoughts about the mistake. I punish myself. Does it have to be this way?

No, no, no. Absolutely it does not. It is my choice. Heaven or hell? Happy or right? Like miracles, there is no degree of right or wrong in making mistakes. One is not bigger than another. The Course tells us any error can be corrected. I invite you to conduct your own “Divine Experiment.” I call it trial and correction. 

Next time you are aware of a mistake, yours or someone else’s, try this. Bring it before Holy Spirit’s court. In His court the only verdict is innocence. Give the error in perception to Holy Spirit. Let Him show you peace instead of torment and how to forgive all concerned.  Accept the miracle and let it be undone.  Now you know it never happened. 

Are you still with me? If at first you don’t succeed… that’s right — try, try and forgive it again. Offer your gratitude for the error, for it served a purpose. You may not know what it is or where it is. You don’t have to. Faith and trust help — but truth is truth. Even if you can’t see it, truth is always there. 
Can’t quite bring yourself to forgive?  Then start with willingness to forgive. It is a great first step to forgiveness.

You are the light of the world. Mistakes are an opportunity to be a miracle worker. They are a gift. What a great way to extend the Love of God and recognize the truth about ourselves and our brothers. Shakespeare had it right. “To err is human, forgive divine.”
