The Gleeful Ego

The ego gleefully loves to attack and does so constantly. We don’t notice it much because that is considered normal and expected. Someone told me: “If I don’t attack what someone says to me, I am considered stupid and gullible.” We support the ego in all kinds of ways.

This is what I found for myself: There is a part within me that likes to attack, even though in subtle ways. She gets satisfaction from this. Yet, when I look at this and feel this attack thought, I really, really don’t like the feeling it gives me. If I am not willing to tell myself to let it go, I distract myself quickly and don’t do anything about it. But I do want to change it. And I know I can.

As I went deeper into this ugly feeling, I felt that there was a little one within me that was crying and feeling very sad. It seemed that she is the innocence who gets hurt when I let the ego attack, seemingly others. It does feel really bad and I don’t always want to look at it. So the feeling is, mostly unconscious, “I’m finally getting back to this person who hurt me …or someone else hurt me, and I just have to hurt someone else back so that someone knows how bad it feels.”

All that is running around the problem. Yes, the ego has power and I have given it to it. The ego tells me that I don’t have any power and, therefore, don’t even try to change anything. This is the way it’s always been, and it will continue, I can’t do anything about it. Yet I know the ego likes to lie and deceive and tell me what is not true, and I have believed it in the past. I also feel that this other me, who believed the ego, was feeling very alone. And as a newborn I decided to live in the separation, which is based on fear and attack; but as a baby I convinced myself that by joining my mother’s fear I was safe.

Now I am no longer dependent on my parents or the fear-based world. I can choose right now. And I am choosing. So I explore the one who feels to me powerless and helpless, and as I feel into her direction, I notice that she is really not a baby who is helpless. I thought that she is a fleshly baby body, but she is not. She has no body, she is just an innocent spirit child, a Being who is my True Self.

So I explore that a bit more, and I discover that this is a Being Who I know is me, but I have not familiarized myself with her very much. I really only know my made-up self, the one who has certain physical characteristics and who I judge all the time for many body-related things I see, such as: for looks and weight and ability and lack of discipline, etc.

I know intellectually that my True Self is pure Love and Light and for some strange reason has chosen to be here in this illusionary world. I want to experience Her. I want to know more about Her, what She is all about.

She is the One Who has an excellent connection to the Divine, to Oneness, to this Reality which is the Source of the made-up one. I want to look through her ‘eyes’, hear with her ‘ears’ and know with her mind.

I understand that there are spiritual senses which give me more information and allow me to discern and see beyond the physical so that I can express more love and act or respond to this worldly image in appropriate ways. And yet, that is just another step. And I will go that step and move more and more into exploring the Real world while in this world.

I know I will be guided because I am never alone; I will know that the Light is stronger than any shadow of doubt or fear, and I will let go of this dream and allow the Spirit to come through me unencumbered to extend only Love. This is my will.

You’re an Angel

Mother Teresa….”Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” My Pathways buddy, Rev. Debra Bredican, shared this quote with me.

As a member of Holy Spirit’s Awakening Crew, one of my assignments for several years now has been to sing a song entitled “You’re An Angel” to others, when guided by Holy Spirit. Charley Thweatt sings the song on one of his albums. Charley, along with Oman and Shanti, put words from ACIM to music in the 70’s & 80’s, and you can hear this song and others on YouTube. (Charley’s web address is musicangel.com)

I think it is really a holy mission to bring such a message to others because isn’t it important that everyone have their “Angelness” revealed to them? Many times I have sung the song for people who help me over the phone with a bill or a technical problem with my computer. After the issue is resolved and I have expressed my thanks, the person always asks, “Is there anything else I can do for you Ms. Anderson?” I respond, “Yes there is. Do you have a minute?” It never fails, they always say, “Why, sure!!” or “Of course!!”

Then I tune in to Holy Spirit and take in a nice, deep, peaceful breath and begin the holy musical message:

You’re an angel, you’re a being of Light,

You’re an angel and I know that I’m right,

You’re an angel, bringing love to everyone,

And it’s yours to give, and in the giving comes the fun!

I always feel such joy from my heart when I sing this song…. a really good example of “To give and to receive are one in truth.” (ACIM, Lesson 108)

I have witnessed great delight in the recipients upon hearing the song. They say, “You have made my day!!” or “How sweet!!” It takes less than 30 seconds for the serenade and it doesn’t cost anything. I may not know how much the message was needed, but one thing for sure, I need to give it.

Happy Mother’s Day

They say “Happy Mother’s Day” and I smile and say, “Thank you.” I think of my mother and I smile. I feel closer to her now. She has been gone for over 15 years. I have affection and appreciation for her. My mother is myself. My daughters are myself. My grand-children are myself.

I also felt the ego rise up. OOOooo. The ego likes to get heard when it comes to mothers and daughters and grand-children in this so-called life. This form of special relationship is still catching “me” sometimes. It’s amazing how many shades of special can come up with family issues.

I was okay yesterday for awhile. It was a beautiful day outside, sunny and bright. I have learned not to expect all the expectations that have sparked the ego in the past. But, still, apparently there are a few layers to forgive. The ego wanted to be oh so appreciated and told how I am surely the most wonderful mother that ever lived! Well, at least some form of that adoration! At least just a little tiny bit of adoration! Of being special, of being “loved.”

I wasn’t even aware of how it was “here,” hanging around, within me yet without even being conscious of it. It has been a long-held belief in separation that has required continued diligence to observe, and to release to Love. I am so grateful Spirit showed me this morning, the “day after,” how I had let this belief creep in, let it get me down, and then miraculously, forgiven as I remembered the Truth: That the ego and what it believes is simply not true.

It happened while looking at Facebook, of all things. All things can be a teaching situation, with openness and willingness. I had thought I got through the day okay yesterday. I worked on my expectations and appreciated the day as it presented itself. But then today, I looked at Facebook and saw the happy celebrations of all sorts of Mother’s Day gatherings, wishes and appreciations. I felt the ego deflate my well-being. I felt sad. I did not get that kind of special appreciation!

The sadness lasted only a short while. I really do appreciate the way Spirit comes to me and reminds me of the Truth before much time is spent in suffering. I asked Holy Spirit to look at this with me. Why am I so sad, when before I was fine?

Holy Spirit said, “Write about it. It may be something for others to realize: Special relationships require specific words or actions to make them okay. Your relationships with mother and daughters are special relationships, because you want them to show up in a certain way in order for you to feel happy. Give every aspect of all relationships to me. There is nothing special about your mother or your daughters or any person. We are all the same love. Remember this and return to joy and peace.”

Thank you God for helping me see where I still have remnants of unhealed beliefs in separation. I am here to extend love in every moment to ALL. Miracles bloom and grow with our willingness to forgive all illusions. The choice for love is given me. There are no shades of special in Love. There is only Love. I choose Love now. I return Home. The rest is just a funny dream, merrily, merrily, I am One with God.

What Is Joy?

“What is joy?” A great question a friend of mine asked at a meeting where we were discussing A Course in Miracles. There were three of us at the table. I gave my definition which was that joy is being in peaceful happiness. The third woman gave her definition which was that joy was being in the present moment.

Neither answer resonated with my friend. She felt it should be more, greater than just happiness. After the meeting, the question kept rolling around in my head.

The next morning, after doing my ACIM reading, I decided to take the question into meditation and see what guidance I was given. The following is what I received and wrote into my journal:

“Joy — the ability to love without fear. Can you imagine how wonderful that would be? No matter who or what the circumstance, you love what is without fear, without judgment, and without evaluation of worthiness. With this love is a total release from any guilt and that, my dear, is joy. No guilt, purity of thought and deed, no thought of gain or loss, no evaluation of fairness or unfairness, just love, like the waves of the ocean, always moving, constantly creating, never standing still in the moment that was; filled with life and with the possibilities of life.

That is what you are, the creator of life, not as in birth, but as in God’s eternal life. What you give is eternal life through love and forgiveness. See yourself as innocent and you will be in joy. See yourself surrounded by God’s Love and you will be in joy. See yourself washed clean of all error and guilt, and you will be in joy. Practice seeing this — don’t wait for a bolt of lightning to hit you with it. Practice and it will become habit. Be present, be alert and practice all I have suggested.”

After meditation, I looked up “Joy” in the Webster’s dictionary. It said: “A state of happiness or felicity.” Then I looked up “Felicity” and the dictionary said: “the quality or state of being happy, great happiness.” So, it appears that both answers given at the meeting were correct: be happy and be present (which I interpret as be aware).

What do I want today, now, in this present moment? I want peace, I want to feel love, and I want to be in joy. Joy is a choice; it does not come from something outside. It is an inner knowing, an inner shift from fear to love, and when you are aware of your willingness to make that shift, put a smile on your face in acknowledgement of it and then affirm: I am in joy!
