I was sitting in meditation thinking about the year that had just been completed. I was judging myself for not accomplishing all that my ego told me I should have accomplished. And, in my meditative state the following thoughts came to me. Because we are of one mind, I thought it would be helpful to many readers to pass these words along as I do not believe they belong to me alone, but rather to all of us who still judge ourselves and find ourselves wanting.
“Do not undermine yourself for what you have done this year. This year more than ever, you have taken your learning from the morning lessons out into the world. This year more than ever, you have been willing to practice. I am proud of you and I am with you. You can do more and you will. Do not discount yourself and your willingness to learn and to do. This year you forgave more readily and held your tongue more frequently. Congratulate yourself for that. This is a practice. An athlete practices every day. He/she knows that without this daily discipline, what has been gained can be quickly lost, but with this discipline, greatness is achieved.
And so continue to practice daily. Strengthen your spiritual muscles. Appreciate how far you have come. Do not take it for granted, but continue to build on it. This is not the end. Enjoy all you do even if it seems difficult. Do not judge, for your judgment is not valid and it leads you only to feelings of guilt and remorse. These feelings are the ego’s way of trying to turn you back. Do not listen. Turn away and say: “I will not listen to these negative words. They are not true nor are they holy. I am God’s Son. I am blessed and I am on the path He has chosen for me. Nothing will lead me astray. In this I am determined.”
And when you get up from your morning study to make the bed or do the laundry, go to your job or to the store, do it with joy. Do it with a remembrance of the Divine, for this, too, is your spiritual practice. Indeed, all you do from morning until evening is your spiritual practice. Do it with love and do it with remembrance of who you are and all you have learned and be happy for you are doing what I have asked of you. Remember always that you are my Son of who I am proud.”
A few days later I had another thought that I would like to share with you and that is that my suffering over the past is a self-inflicted wound.
May you have a wonderful year filled with love and joy.

I ask myself this often. What do I want? More than anything, I want the peace of God. More than anything, I want to know my Oneness with my Creator, but is this what I really want?
My actions show me I want order. I want to know what’s going to happen next and how it’s going to happen. My actions show me I want to be in control. I want to call the shots. I want to schedule my life and have everything show up on time as predicted. I think I feel very safe when I’m able to do this, but is this really safety or is it me playing God?
It’s always when I have to accept something I can’t change that I am reminded, once again, just how dependent I am on God. It’s only when I refuse to be dependent on God that I feel fear. If I’m not accepting my dependence, I’m trying to be the god of my life. I’m not in control. I never have been and never will be.
Of course I’m dependent on God! This requires me to be humble. The ego doesn’t like this at all. It wants to be arrogant. If I listen to the ego it tells me that God doesn’t love me which fills me with incredible fear. The ego tells me I’ll never be good enough; never be worthy and that I don’t need God. The ego wants to kill me so God can’t. That’s the crucifixion.
The ego is simply confused. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit in me knows what’s going on and is always quietly telling me to remember who I am. I’m God’s child. I’m totally dependent on Him. I must trust Him with my life and my schedule if I’m to have any peace at all. That’s the resurrection.
One thing that helps me is to remember the repeated message in Lessons 201 through 220: “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” Often these words come to my mind when I’m feeling stressed. When I am able to accept this about myself I’m able to accept the gift God gave me when He created me whole and perfect like Himself. Now I can stop listening to the ego. The ego knows nothing.
My Self accepts the Atonement as it is. It doesn’t try to put the chains of conditions on God. It accepts the Love of God by knowing we are One. Only I can crucify myself. God’s not even interested. He only loves me as His own. God has given me the grace to accept this. I cannot learn grace, I can only accept it and in accepting grace, I have accepted the Atonement for myself. That’s why I’m here — to allow the Holy Spirit to remove all the blocks to Love’s presence in me. If I would know myself as part of God, I must recognize that I am very holy. As part of Him, I am dependent on Him.
I humbly accept this as the Truth about me and my brother and I accept the Oneness of Love. I accept Who God is and Who I am. I’m no longer afraid to live my life. I’m no longer afraid to let Him call the shots. I’m accepting and allowing His Love to work through me. I use my life as a mirror to teach me the things I need to learn and I accept the Holy Spirit’s help in this learning. This is what I really want and knowing this brings me the Peace of God.

My friend, Laura, who lives alone often calls me and asks me how I really feel emotionally, mentally and spiritually. She tells me what she is struggling with in her life and what puzzles she is trying to put together in relationship to God. It is our custom to talk from the heart at least twice a week, asking Holy Spirit to guide our conversations and be a helpmate in our busy lives.
Our two discussions this week centered around how anxiety grabs us and holds on to us and we personally feel we have to figure out solutions to our problems ourselves. My own huge stumbling block is that I want the problem solved now, as quickly and simply as possible. We forget we are supposed to worship, pray and ask for help from God. We forget to take a deep breath, calm down and turn our problems over to our helper, our biggest fan, God.
Our assignment between calls this week was to read and digest Lesson 105 in A Course in Miracles Workbook for Students on page 188 titled, God’s Peace and Joy Are Mine. Sentence four sums up our discussion very well:
“As Heaven’s peace and joy intensify when you accept them as God’s gift to you, so does the joy of your Creator grow when you accept His joy and peace as yours.”
When I accept God’s joy and God’s peace, I learn to lay my busyness and my problems at His feet and trust that He does have a plan for me. He will hold my hand and lead me through my toughest of times so that I may in turn shower the joy and peace I feel through His awesome presence on those around me and accept their loving joy and peace in return.

This the truth of who I am. There is only law in perfection. There is no law that holds up hatred, sin, sickness and death. This is why these things were so easily overcome in the presence of the Master Jesus. Jesus knew the Law of God, the law of perfection, and paid no mind to anything else.
Only the Law of God is real. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve ate from the tree of good and evil and thus began our hallucination of good and evil.
We are called upon as miracles workers to have this so firmly settled into our minds that we begin our witness to miracles about. We never ask for a singular miracle of any kind. No indeed, miracles come in the plural, too many to keep track of under the Law of God.
The mind training in A Course In Miracles leads us to listen to only one Voice. That Voice is not the voice of duality (good and evil). It is the Voice of perfection.
Pray truly in secret, go to God and listen, allow God to do the praying and just listen. Drop any scary image the senses are trying to call you to, and listen for God. I am the Holy Son of God, heir to His kingdom of perfection, and all that is contained within! Thank you Father for ye are greater, yet the same! In you is the shining of abundance, peace, vitality and Holy companionship. Thank you Father. Now I listen. Amen.
