Changing the Purpose of the Body

by Rev. Linda Wisniewski

imageIn my childish fantasy world, there’s a part of me that still believes I could ward off sickness, pain and suffering by being a “good” Course student.

‘If only I study hard enough, do my daily lessons ‘religiously,’ nothing bad will ever happen to me.” So when I get sick like I just did with a sinus infection, does that mean I am doing something wrong; that I’m bad; I’ve sinned and deserve to be punished?

I know, having been a diligent student of A Course in Miracles for the past four years that this is not true, even though in my ego thought world it seems true. After all, isn’t the ego thought system designed to make us all believe we are guilty and deserve punishment? Doesn’t it make us believe, as we learned when we went to our childhood religious classes, that God is watching our every action, judging us to be naughty or nice and meting out punishment accordingly?

Healing Messages from Rev. Veronika Wilcox

by Rev. Veronika Wilcox

image Steady Practice

Once I attended a master class for violin as a listener. The lecturer was a Russian violinist. He told the Australian students that the Russian students practised about twelve hours a day! Laughter was the answer.

It seemed too incredible to those students who seemed to practise only about three hours on an average. When I was a student I practised six hours a day for years.

I Want the Peace of God

by Rev. Michael L. Ciavarella

imageThis article was inspired by Lesson 185 in A Course In Miracles, Workbook for Students.

I don’t want a house anymore. I want the peace of God. That’s all I really want. And yes. I am sincere in this desire. It is not simply words to say. It is what I really want. It is what everyone really wants, isn’t it?

I don’t want a house anymore. Oh, it would be nice to have a house, but holding a desire like that is, in the long run, buying into the illusion. It is a compromise that would spoil the whole need for my wanting the peace of God and that’s what I really want.

Grandeur vs Grandiosity

by Rev. Lee Catalano

imageGrandeur is of God and equally shared. Grandiosity is the belief in littleness. If the mind didn’t first believe in lack, it would not need the illusion of grandiosity to comfort itself. Grandiosity is a vehicle of pain because it is not shared.

The entire Sonship shares granduer equally and therefore it is of God and it is the truth. As I recognize the granduer that is my brother, I experience it myself because it is the truth of us both.

A Grateful Heart

by Rev. Robert Thompson

imageOn November 11, 2006, Revs. Deb and Paul Phelps gave a workshop called, Appreciation Inspirations at Pathways of Light annual membership weekend. During the workshop, we were guided to take a few moments to write someone a letter of appreciation.

In the workshop we were reminded, “All it takes is a little willingness and inspiration from the Holy Inspiration does the rest.” Following is my letter of appreciation that I wrote to my Mother during that workshop.

Accepting Change with Love and Gratitude

by Rev. Cheryl Ford

imageThis past year has really proved to be quite a profound time for me at this stage in my life. With all of the changes of leaving the United States and moving to a new country, I thought the extent of transitional life adjustments couldn’t be stretched much further. But I’m currently finding that this is not the case…

When I arrived in the United Kingdom last year it was not alone. My husband and two children came with me. I guess I should emphasize that my two ‘children’ are really adult age and came along as an expense paid opportunity to travel and learn from the ‘school of life.’ Our time together abroad has been wonderful, but now it seems to be coming to an end.

On Being Falsely Accused

by Rev. Myron Jones

imageSomeone I know accused me of something I didn’t do. In the ego, being falsely accused brings up so much fear. First, if it is a false accusation, there is nothing for me to fix. I can’t make it right. I can try to argue the point, but even the ego knows that too much arguing just makes it more real. So it just sits there, unresolved and seeming to taunt me.

I find it hard to look away, and the more I look the worse I feel. I feel that I have been attacked and since I can find no other way to defend myself, I return the attack. There must be something wrong with this person. If his accusation is so patently false, he must be projecting. He is showing his true colors. He said about me what he really feels about himself.

Joining with People Around the World in Awakening to Love

by Rev. Cheryl Ford

image  Pathways of Light Spiritual College has long been ‘dedicated to joining with people around the world in awakening to the Love and Peace of God within us all.’ In harmony with this philosophy, several ministers have been inspired to carry out that mission by launching a Pathways of Light branch in the United Kingdom (UK).

Directed by Holy Spirit and working closely with the main campus in Kiel, steps are unfolding to bring the loving message of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) through the Pathways of Light courses to a whole new group of students throughout the UK and Europe. So far, the results have been a remarkable meeting of the minds and a wonderful collaboration of ministers, ACIM group leaders, students and friends.

Applying True Forgiveness

by Revs. Robert & Mary Stoelting

image We would like to start by defining what we mean by the term true forgiveness. We define true forgiveness as letting the light of truth shine through into our awareness. This light of truth comes from the Holy Spirit, Who returns our mind to the sanity of Love’s oneness.

As students of the Course, we are learning that true forgiveness means letting go of the dream of separate bodies and letting it be replaced by the truth of oneness. “A world forgiven cannot last. It was the home of bodies. But forgiveness looks past bodies. This is its holiness; this is how it heals.” (ACIM, C-4.5:1-4)

Being of Service

by Rev. Myron Jones

image  Sometimes it seems hard to know how best to be of service. Someone is in crisis, or simply processing and I wonder, “How can I really help? At what point will my helpfulness become intrusive?” What about other times when the need is not so obvious? I started thinking about this because of something that happened while I was working.

I was helping a customer with some paper work he had to submit to a governmental agency. I was so intent on what we were doing and with getting through it so I could make my next appointment that it wasn’t until I was leaving that I picked up on his discomfort.

I Am In Need of Nothing but the Truth

by Revs. Paul and Deborah Phelps

image  During our morning meditation walk, Holy Spirit made us aware of the fact that it was garbage collection day here in Madison. Everything that is not needed is cast aside. The clippings, the leftovers, the dirty diapers, the broken toys and furniture, all that once served a purpose are now gladly released without another moment’s thought.

Perception of Order of Difficulties

by Rev. Lee Catalano

image Wow wee. The belief in order of difficulties is the problem. Jesus states in A Course in Miracles that any perception of comparisons is not so. So how can there possibly be an order of difficulty?

“A larger object overshadows a smaller one. A brighter thing draws the attention from another with less intensity of appeal. And a more threatening idea, or one conceived as more desirable by the world’s standards, completely upsets the mental balance.” (M.8.1:3)

This is about jealousy and the special relationship. This reminds me of observing my daughter’s experience of high school. The threats and cruelty in this section are played out in high school cafeteria’s (and the entire world) daily.

I Can Hardly Wait to See the Good That Comes from This

by Jo Blahnik

My father and I had always had intense reaction to the world and to each other. Several years into my study of A Course in Miracles I realized that I continually remembered my past with him with agitation. Then in Workbook Lesson 21, I became determined to see things differently when I heard “a slight tinge of annoyance is nothing but a veil drawn over intense fury.”

Finally recognizing my anger, I wanted to be rid of it. Surprisingly, when studying Workbook Lesson 192 (I have a function God would have me fill) I completely missed its message of forgiveness. But when I heard, “A jailer is not free, for he is bound together with his prisoner,” I realized that by reliving memories of our past together I was choosing to hold us both in that position.
