The Process of Forgiveness

by Rev. Lee Catalano

image Forgiveness empties the mind of false beliefs by our willingness to let them go. False beliefs are the driving force behind ego thought. A thought cannot linger and take hold without there being an underlying belief.

Jesus refers to the “little willingness” to see things differently in the Course. The willingness is little in the beginning, because that is all he (Jesus) needs in order to get his foot in the door of our minds, metaphorically speaking. With the little willingness to see things differently we begin to have little episodes of peace. As we begin to identify peace with letting go, our willingness to let go increases to “great willingness.” That is why it is so vital to have the experience that he is pointing to in the Workbook lessons and the experience is peace.

Waking Up/Awakening

Rev. Colleen Mc Nally

image I sit this morning taking some deep breaths. As I begin this day, I am aware of a deep need to nurture my soul. “We will practice laying aside our false personas so we can focus on the perception and awareness of our soul.” (Pathways course 802: Soul Awareness)

As I go about my morning rituals and settle into this more focused time of reflection and prayer, two words are jumping around in my mind. They are ‘waking up’ and ‘awakening.’ As I let meanings and understanding come to me, I realize a kind of playfulness. This play on/with these two words brings a smile to my face as I think to myself, “They really mean the same thing; they are inter-changeable. I can wake up or awaken in the morning and I can wake up and awaken to the Love within me.

Preferring Holy Spirit’s Plan

by Rev. Barbara Kraetsch

image I am struck by how similar the first principle and foundation of St. Ignatius is to ACIM. Another confirmation that the truth is the truth. It may come to us in slightly different words, merely symbols in form, but the truth always remains the truth. Visionaries and mystics throughout time always come to the idea of oneness, with all else being illusion.

It is in coming to the idea of oneness that we can come to recognize our soul. We cannot find ourselves except to look at the One Self. We cannot find ourselves anywhere else because we don’t exist anywhere else. Everything in the illusion made by the mind can be a help to the end of rejoicing in our oneness with God. We can make use of what is in the illusion to help us to this end, and also learn to let go of what is any hindrance to us. A hindrance for us is attachment to form, letting expectations, preferences, or obsessions rule our lives.

My Desire to Be Right Causes Me Pain

by Rev. Joan Haber

imageI was given an opportunity to choose between being right and being happy yesterday and I discovered that I act out of habit. When the situation arose, I instinctively turned on my defenses and made a decision out of wanting to be “right” with this other person.

Right after I did so, I stopped and actually thought about what I did and why. I believe it is this type of vigilant awareness that will eventually save me from this type of situation that only brings me pain.

This Year, Am I Willing to Remember the Mind Boggling Truth?

by Rev. Mary Stoelting

image As we begin this new year together, I am struck with the idea that this coming year brings with it an opportunity of ‘mind boggling’ proportions. As students of A Course in Miracles, we all know that it is very important for us to allow our minds to be ‘boggled’ by the Holy Spirit. When we let our minds be ‘boggled’ by the Holy Spirit we remember that in reality, there are no separate minds. We remember that there is only one Mind and that we are all included in the one Mind of Love. We remember that we cannot leave the one Mind of Love because It is our true Identity and we cannot change What we are.

How a Spiritual Perspective Can Change Your Experience

by Dennis Gaither, MD

image We live in a world seemingly determined by events around us and experienced through our senses. We see before us many separate objects and separate bodies with a mind or will of their own. Everything our senses tell us seems to remind us, to convince us, that we are alone and separate in a world of scarcity, competition and danger.  A world in which what we have, what we have worked for, can be taken from us in an instant.

We try to buy some sense of security in this world in countless ways:  relationships (or in the avoidance of them!), through our jobs and roles, through bank accounts and insurance policies. We try to protect ourselves from a perceived threatening world in many other ways. We seek safety in isolation, personal and national weapons, keeping our guard up, and joining with others in alliances against persons or groups.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Plan Brings Peace

by Rev. Barbara Kraetsch

imageI recognize today just how often I make plans in advance for myself and others. I think of things I will say and do, and how others will say and do. I make expectations in my mind by scripting in advance. I plan how people will act at family events and parties, meetings, holidays, work schedules — really, almost every situation or event I can think of. I script interactions and moods. I plan it out to meet my needs or what I think would be best, not only for me but others, as well. Sometimes these expectations get locked into my mind and if they don’t happen, I feel keenly disappointed.

Do We Have to Suffer to Grow Spiritually?

by Rev. Marie Hanson

imageThis question was asked at our A Course in Miracles discussion group recently.  What a great question! My mind immediately went into its busy-ness and monkey business. It would go to a back burner, and then come to the front.  It intrigued me. It eluded me. It deserved meditation and reflection.

I am aware of a part of me that always knows. It is joyful, peaceful. Then, there is the part of me that can be nosey and argumentative. It is noisy and brings my mind evidence to contradict Truth. My split mind!  How clever it is. Holy Spirit’s help is always at hand.  And invite Him in I did.  Ahhh…

How Am I Victimized?

by Rev. Myron Jones

imageThanksgiving was more meaningful to me this year than it usually is. I have so much to be thankful for. That I am still here after the hurricane season is at the top on my list. In fact, my life is one blessing after another. My home is undamaged, my family safe, my town getting back to normal. My life is so good that you would think I would have trouble finding things to complain about, but not so. In fact, I was thinking about something just the other day.

I have a new vehicle. Having a new car is good, but I really don’t like the process of buying one. This time it wasn’t all that bad, though. However, after the purchase was complete, I realized that they had not included a package that was supposed to be part of the deal.

I wasn’t really that upset about not having the package which was designed to protect the vehicle long term, and I seldom have a car long term, but I was charged for it and felt like I had been taken advantage of. As I sat there fuming over the situation, I realized that I felt like I was a victim of an unscrupulous dealership.

The Movie Dream

by Rev. Mary Manke

imageAs I am willing to see things differently, the gift is given and received.

Me: “Holy Spirit, how can I look at or feel the things that I’ve hidden, so that I can give them to you? The ego feels very threatened in this.”

Spirit: “That is the belief that you are not lovable, not accepted as you are right now.”

Letting Go: A New Beginning

by Rev. Cheryl Ford

image I am honestly at a complete loss for what is supposed to be happening in my life right now. I’m asking but not receiving any clear direction other than trust. Trusting is very hard for me because each day something else seems to take a new direction. It’s like a purging of all of my attachments, even people that are dear to me.

Much of this doesn’t seem to be happening by my own choice, other than my desire to follow God’s Will for my life. Why aren’t I able to trust and let go? I guess I’m afraid. Yet at this moment I feel that I have nothing and no one save Holy Spirit’s Voice.

The Light Has Come

by Rev. Veronika Wilcox

imageTo see only the Light is Christ vision. To give up the belief in the power and reality of darkness is liberation.

The light has come. (Lesson 75) Let there be light. Today I will say to every brother: “The light in you is all that I would see, (name).” And just as I was in the middle of typing this, a friend came in. On his face was no light to be seen. He was carrying a problem, a conflict. I instantly affirmed the above and kept affirming it silently as he spoke. When he left he smiled and gave me a hug. IT IS WORTH THE PRACTICE!

Deeper Awareness of My Soul

by Rev. Deb Phelps

imageIn working with a student
recently in a process which is part of course 802: Soul Awareness, I received the following as a message from my Divine Source.

Imagine a clear reflection as you look within. Keep your mind quiet, as still as water. When water is in turmoil or chaos you cannot see your clear reflection.

Use this image as a reminder to still your mind. I am here for you and will accept all thoughts and gladly exchange them for thoughts for peace. This is a reminder about walking the middle path; the path of non-judgment. Not seeing on your right… Not seeing on your left… Not good… bad… black… white.

Be Now at Peace

Rev. Deb Phelps

image This meditation was divinely inspired and shared during “Tuesdays with Spirit” on ACIM Gather on December 13th, 2005.

Dear Sweet One, I offer to you my hand of safety and peace. There is no need to feel the feelings that you have felt for so long, no need to feel them any longer.

You have given me this gift of your thoughts and I gladly have accepted it. Now I share with you this message of Truth. It is the message of your holiness and your Divine nature.
