Holy Spirit, How Do You See This?

To teach is to demonstrate. There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time. From your demonstration others learn, and so do you.… Teaching is but a call to witnesses to attest to what you believe. It is a method of conversion. This is not done by words alone. Any situation must be to you a chance to teach others what you are, and what they are to you. No more than that, but also never less. (A Course in Miracles M-Intro.2:1-3,7-11)

In every moment we are choosing whether we want to reinforce our sense of isolation, weakness and loss or awaken to the certainty that we remain in God, cannot be alone, have all of God’s strength and all of His gifts. Put in these terms, the choice seems obvious. But in our everyday experience, it doesn’t seem obvious because we are focused on the thought system of separation.

The moment-by-moment practice of keeping our minds open to receive Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our limited perceptions is how we learn to teach and learn that we remain as God created us. Our practice today is to frequently ask, “Holy Spirit, how do you see this?” He will always witness to the truth in us. This is all we want. This is all we need.

Receiving Our Father’s Gifts Today

Receiving Our Father’s Gifts TodayYou are as God created you. There is no place where you can suffer, and no time that can bring change to your eternal state. How can a world of time and place exist, if you remain as God created you?

What is the lesson for today except another way of saying that to know your Self is the salvation of the world? To free the world from every kind of pain is but to change your mind about yourself. There is no world apart from your ideas because ideas leave not their source, and you maintain the world within your mind in thought. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.132.9:2-4;10:1-3)

Right now there appears to be two thought systems from which to choose. Like the story of the prodigal son, we have chosen to wander in a dream world of separate bodies with separate interests. We are now ready to return to our Father’s Home, to return to the oneness of our Father’s Love. Our Father has great gifts to share with us.

Today it is our practice to receive our Father’s gifts as we are vigilant to return to Love. We realize that Love is the answer to every situation we encounter. Our Father welcomes us with gifts of peace and Love and joy as we increase our willingness to know our Self. We realize our wanderings into being separate from Love meant nothing and had no effect. And our Father welcomes us with open arms. Accepting our Father’s Love and extending it to the world is what today is for. This is our only purpose and we give thanks.

Let Fearful Dreams Be Replaced by Truth

Whenever you feel fear in any form,—and you are fearful if you do not feel a deep content, a certainty of help, a calm assurance Heaven goes with you,—be sure you made an idol, and believe it will betray you.…

Forgiving dreams remind you that you live in safety and have not attacked yourself. So do your childish terrors melt away, and dreams become a sign that you have made a new beginning, not another try to worship idols and to keep attack. Forgiving dreams are kind to everyone who figures in the dream. And so they bring the dreamer full release from dreams of fear. (A Course in Miracles T-29.IX.9:1;10:1-4)

We are always getting feedback about which mind we are choosing to join with. If we are not feeling the calm assurance that Heaven goes with us, we are getting helpful feedback that we are choosing the false mind. We get valuable clues throughout the day about which mind we are choosing.

One thing that helps us is to take frequent timeouts during the day to ask the Holy Spirit to fill our minds with truth. As we are willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s peace and strength, we feel certain that we have all the help we need. Once again we see all the figures in the dream as the Light of God they truly are. We are brought from time to timeless eternity. Once again we hear the joyous song of Heaven, and fear disappears.

Accepting Holy Spirit’s Miracle

What is a miracle? A dream as well. But look at all the aspects of this dream and you will never question any more. Look at the kindly world you see extend before you as you walk in gentleness. Look at the helpers all along the way you travel, happy in the certainty of Heaven and the surety of peace. And look an instant, too, on what you left behind at last and finally passed by.

This was the ego––all the cruel hate, the need for vengeance and the cries of pain, the fear of dying and the urge to kill, the brotherless illusion and the self that seemed alone in all the universe. This terrible mistake about yourself the miracle corrects as gently as a loving mother sings her child to rest. (A Course in MIracles C-2.7:1-6;8:1-2)

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to fill our mind with Light. We give welcome to Holy Spirit’s plan, not our own. We accept Holy Spirit’s gifts of peace and quiet inner joy. We let ourselves remember that we are safe in the Mind of God and have never left. We follow what is given us because we are not on our own. This is how we travel happily through the day “in the certainty of Heaven and the surety of peace.”

Undoing the Ego

Peace and happiness are the antithesis of the ego. The ego cannot tolerate true happiness. The ego’s attitude toward happiness shows up in common statements such as: “I’m okay now, but I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop; the bad always comes with the good.”

The ego always has a tolerance level it sets for how much happiness it is willing for us to experience. When we reach this level, it starts bringing up thoughts or situations to sabotage our happiness. The ego does this because if we truly let go of our grievances that keep us unhappy, if we truly forgive, we will have let go of the ego entirely.

We will give it no credence because we will know with certainty that we remain in the perfect happiness that God wills for us. In this certainty, the ego simply ceases to seem to exist.

This is why the daily, moment by moment practice of bringing all disturbing, unhappy, judgmental thoughts to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His corrective vision is the key to true happiness. This practice undoes the ego. It is our practice for today.

Listen and Receive

In quiet listen to your Self today, and let Him tell you God has never left His Son, and you have never left your Self.

Only be quiet. You will need no rule but this, to let your practicing today lift you above the thinking of the world, and free your vision from the body’s eyes. Only be still and listen. You will hear the Word in which the Will of God the Son joins in his Father’s Will, at one with it, with no illusions interposed between the wholly indivisible and true. As every hour passes by today, be still a moment and remind yourself you have a special purpose for this day; in quiet to receive the Word of God. ( A Course in MiraclesW-pI.125.8:4;9:1-5)

What the body’s eyes see is so compelling. It captures our attention and blinds us to the vision of Christ, which would show us the truth that unites our brothers with ourselves. This is why the practice of being quiet and listening to the Self within is essential to breaking free from the blinding images of the body so we can return to full awareness that we remain at one with Love.

This is true freedom. This is the return to perfect happiness and changeless peace. It’s worth the effort. We want to wake up to the fact that we are still the perfect Love that God created us to be. We want to listen to our true Self and receive the gift of Love so we can share it with our brothers. This is how we remember What we are.

Our Only Purpose

Forgiveness is our only purpose here. To accept this purpose is to make way for perfect happiness and the calm certainty that we rest in Love.

The practice of being vigilant to recognize every disturbing, fearful or guilty thought and offering that thought to the Holy Spirit in our minds for his kind correction is the path to happiness. It is worth the effort. Today is another happy day of practice.
